About a year ago my 200gb Maxtor IDE HDD decided to go bad on me, well I think I maxed it space wise and it then developed issues .

I'm trying again... to recover data from the drive but without sucess thus far, when I hook this up I get NTLDR is missing just after it boots up. I've tried various ways to get this sorted but not having much joy google is not my friend :(

Last night I spent acouple of hours using the seatools to try and sort it out, now I had to go the through the DOS method and after running there recommended long test it only found 1 error here (LBA 398239989), and then went on to advise it had now been fixed. Tried booting it back up but its still showing the missing NTLDR.

I tried the XP boot disk and the repair FIXBOOT or FIXMBR & CHKDSK states the drives ok (which obviously it isn't), but nothing is working for me. When I boot vis the XP disk I press R and it directs me to the command black screen where I've tried the above (all alittle over my head but just what I've read via google).

Is there anything I may have missed they might let me at least get my data back from the drive???

Yes, saved my bacon, you can use my Name + it as keywords in Search and find how bad my HDD was, it was RAW basically no file sytem left, not actually broken though, also helped others here if HDD is not actually broken.

Well it took alittle tinkering (most of today) but I've finally started to get some bits off there very very slowly so guess I know what I'm up to this week :p now

Thanks for the heads up on this mate
