Is it worth bothering with the RMA for a DiamondMax 9? Seems they have a pretty lousy reputation so maybe use as a spare or a backup drive but not for "live" use?

Because new ones are so cheap? Because it's just going to fail again? Because it's less hassle to simply get a different one which is going to work longer than five minutes?

Burn it and send us the pics!

It's about all they're good for. Personally I wouldn't bother RMA'ing it unless they will give you a Samsung, WD or Hitachi....Cos they actually work!

12 quid for a drive that's four months old. Other companies refund the postage if you have to RMA something; other companies would provide a replacement that is going to work properly or supply an alternative working model; for £40 I could get an alternative manufacturer's 80GB drive that might last a reasonable period. Yeah, I'm moaning ;)

EDIT: Oh, and they don't have to supply a NEW drive, it can be a refurbished one in place of a practically brand new one - even a different "equivalent" model. One of the aspects of manufacturer RMA instead of retailer RMA is that the manufacturer can avoid the customer demanding a full refund as the manufacturer was not the vendor.

If its 4 months old surely you're entitled to return it to the shop you bought it from, who would in turn refund your postage costs ?

As i understand it, first 12 months are covered by the retailer, anything after that is manufacturer, could be wrong.

some things are more than 12 months

when my gfx card died after just over 12 months use i emailed leadtek. they emailed me and said under some euro law certain items had more than 12 months guarantee with the retailler first. i got a new gfx card. worth checking.

I'm trying to RMA a Maxtor 300gb sata drive atm and seems useless because unless they reproduce the problem they won't replace it. And unless they use the same mobo as mine they can't reproduce the problem.

Although I thought that all Maxtor disks are supposed to work with all motherboards therefore the product isn't meeting it's description and therefore I should lawfully be able to RMA it.

Hes testing it now but I'm pretty certain i'll get no result, just gonna go home and decide wether or not to ring back or email them back to make my case. Theres another guy on the the hard drives forum with the same problem, his threads on this page atm.

You also need to generate a diagnostic code from powermax in order to rma, i tried to do the advanced scan on my disk after it passed the basic test, but it literally took all day, so i just pulled the plug and it came up with some code like dead****, just cost me £10 to post it off to Ireland.

EDIT: Never mind, sounds like you've already sent it.

So they've sent me an advance RMA replacement of :

MaXLine Plus II 250GB SATA/150 (refurbished)

Now obviously that's three times the size of the old one (which is nice) but is this one of their dodgy drives or is the MaXLine Plus II more reliable?
