Maybe a new vive headset coming at CES

Also excited to see what gets announced tomorrow.

Even a 50% increase in resolution and everything else being equal would have me likely to upgrade. My vanilla 1080 manages to run Assetto Corsa with 1.5x SS, but consumer Volta will show up sooner or later anyway.

A 50% increase in resolution wouldn't be enough for me to upgrade. I am only swapping out for a true next gen headset. Substantial res increase, wire free and much wider FOV.

The road to VR say a number of things, most likely to do with the lenses. Personally I want those controllers. The vive controllers might not be the best in terms of ergonomics when compared to the touch controllers, but like every vive owner knows, your only one step away from a controller packing in. There's a reluctance to spend over £100 pounds on a controller with valves knuckles controller constantly hanging over like the sword of democles.

Looks like the details have slipped out:

In short...
It's being called the Vive Pro
Resolution will be 2880x1600 (1440x1600 per eye) compared to current 2160x1200. This makes it the same as the Vive Focus (which would make sense)
We're getting integrated headphones (not sure if this just means the DAS will be included)
They're announcing a HTC first party wireless solution
No word on pricing but fair to assume a bump to $900 mark (not including wireless)

I was planning on buying the Deluxe audio strap and I have some scratches on my Vive's lenses so I'm hoping that we can buy just the headset, instant purchase for me if it becomes available

Shame no eye tracking technology implemented.

I suspect we'll see a massive jump in res/fov once that has been mastered. Easier to render large areas if the periphery of our vision can be downsampled without noticeable latency.

True that! Foveated rendering is going to save VR as the resolution increases.

Of course, we also hope that the graphics card guys aren't slacking! :D

Nice wee graphic to show resolution comparisons

That pic needs some serious edits. Only the Pro is correct

Don't think 33% more pixels is enough to tempt me, bit disappointed.

Only exception would be if there were a headset-only option at a 'reasonable' price, but given the silly cost of current accessories that doesn't seem very likely.

Aren’t they the same resolution as the Samsung Odyssey?
Wonder if it’s using the same panels.
If so, no rush from me as the only feedback I’d read about the Samsung was that it was no significantly better than a Rift.

I wasn't all that interested till the Q1 availability, and the Q2 for the wireless. Unless the price is obscene, ill be upgrading I think. All it needs is valve to step up and deliver those controllers.

USB3-C, so unless you get a card, a lot of older systems snubbed.

Where are the Pimax's and Odyssey in that pretty comparison pic?
