I been looking at an RX-8 that am thinking of maybe buying....

Is there any important things i should be checking on it before buying ???

i heard horror stories something about the engine tips that can wear out and cost a few k to be fixed..
Is it possible to check for the condition of these engine tips and if yes how ??

Also how can i tell if it a 192ps or 231ps model ??

Start stockpiling Oil ready.
Read they only meant to use .30 ltr per 1000miles

Number of previous owners, these tend to be more trouble than they're worth and change hands quickly.
It a 2004 model and done 29,000miles

2 owners (1 from new and the second owned it for only about 6 months)

Buy something with similar fuel consumption costs instead, like perhaps an AMG Mercedes or a perhaps a V8 Twin Turbo Porsche Cayenne.
My calibra only gives me 21mpg summer time and 18mpg winter time

Surely ian rx-8 can't be that much worst then that

Wonder what mpg i get around my crappy little island

My island speed limit is 35mph, so most my driving would no more then around 40 to 45mph

Ok now i heard all the downsides of buying & owning an RX-8 :(

Crazy high fuel consumption
Maybe high oil consumption
Coils may need replacing at a cost of about £250
Engine easy to flood and then very hard to start afterwards
Engine may need a rebuild after 60k miles
Looses value very quickly
Clutches can cost mega £££ and don't seem to last long
The Auto leveling Headlight units can packup from getting water in them and cost £1500 to replace..

What are the good sides ?? :p

Finding the worlds most expensive 2006 Fiesta to make a point seems a bit odd.
Secondhand small cars cost far more in guernsey...

and also guernsey being a small island with a low speed limit and most trips only being about 2miles long pushes the price of small cars up through the roof over here

I've never understood what is so good about the RX-8 don't you have to rag it to get any power out of it?

When there's so many good hot hatches and 2 seaters around I don't see where the RX-8 fits in.

Does it handle much better than a MX-5? The prospect of eye watering bills and awful fuel economy would scare me off.
The RX-8 is not a hot hatch or a 2 seater ;)

The RX8 is such a great car. Looks slick, handles well, loads of space, lovely interior; its just let down by its engine. It would have been great with a turbo 4 pot or a V6 under the bonnet.
I reckon they would sold loads of RX-8 if they fitted a normal engine instead of that stupid motor Rotary engine

I finding it really hard to find even one good point about the RX-8 Rotary engine,,

Can anyone tell me any good points about the RX-8 Rotary engines ??

They actually did sell loads of RX8. I was once about to pwn somebody on here with facts about how the RX8 sold 0 cars and the 330Ci Sport sold 90000000000 cars and when I actually checked the sales figures...

...Mazda sold more RX8 than BMW sold 330Ci Sport.
I also looked at buying a BMW 330ci sport and some lower models (2002 to 2004 model years)

But there 1000's of BMW's over here.it seems like every man, wife and there dog owns one..So i wanted something a little different

Love my RX8, sold my old one couple of years ago but im back with one, nothing else i tried came close, tried amazda 3 mps (didnt intend on buying one though), 350z, ended up with a fiesta for a year. Only other car that does it for me is the RX7.

I certainly dont care about the fuel usage.
Love the handling, the smoothness, the way the revs pick up, sound.
Mine cost £3,500 and is mint with only 50k on it and the lower tax band.
Last time you owned an RX8 You wrote that it was boring and no fun

The rx8 was boring, just to clinical, fast round the track but no fun really..
