My car so far, slowly getting ready for the track.

Still to do are Newmans rally spec cams to fit higher flow fuel pump, also want a few gauges, oil pressure and temp, and water temp.
Its got 4 point harnesses fitted, Escort RS Turbo Recaros in the front, stripped out interior, B&M quickshift and modified gear linkage.

Its currently putting out 138bhp at the wheels, im hoping with the new camshafts and a new exhaust it will be doing 150 at the wheels.

Only suspension mods so far are full poly bushes throughout.

Underneath is fully wax oiled so thats good as new. Few spots inside though but thats been dealt with.

Looks great.

Is it expensive to get those upgrades in?

Engine costs about £200, carbs, manifold and electronic ignition as a kit was £600, then all you need is some hoses, waterpump from a 1995 escort, few different hoses. Probably cost about £1000 all in.

Love these, had two many moons ago when I was 17, One Crystal blue metalic and the other Diamond White. I think they look fantastic when there is a contrast with the paintwork to highlight the body kit.

I lowered the white one and put 15" alloys on it with 45 profile tyres. Some clear indicator lenses and it looked great.

I even got hold of an RS turbo lump to put in it but there was no way I could insure it.

I also remember the lights would get brighter when reving the engine :D

Wish I had some pictures.

To go in after the cams and exhaust will be a stage 2 CTS gearbox with Quaiff LSD, Hispec 4 pot brakes, bias brake box, and some compomotive 15" alloys. All takes time, especially as iv just spent up this month on new pc stuff.

So far its £260 a year to insure.

Beats nearly everything iv come up against so far.

Cheers the only reason i drive is for fun, the escort never ran for more than a week without breaking.

The rx8 was boring, just to clinical, fast round the track but no fun really.

Now the xr2 is spot on, brilliant fun, stealthy track weapon, cheap to run, ultra reliable. Everyone underestimates it.

Plus im a classic ford fan, i enjoy the shows.
