MBR Problems

Hi,

Ive been having some strange problems with my HDD, NOD32 reports the MBR to be corrupt and cant scan it and I have been unable to install linux (lilo) bootloader in the past to the MBR, also i cant boot to XP the standard way, I had to configure my bios to do something special with it.

I have formatted the drive fully, and replaced partition tables and this issue is still in place. Is there anyway to fix this? I have tried various fixmbr tools but with no success.

Could a low level format help? Is that still possible?

The drive in question is a Western Digital 120gb, and is pefectly fine and has been for the past 2 years, but ive had this MBR issue for a while and i would like to fix it.

Any ideas?

Is it a sata drive. Awhile ago i had a similar problem and the software at the time couldnt initialise/see the sata drive. If the software has changed then a low level format is the way id go.
