Anyone here work for macdonalds?

Do they give a contract that states the minimum of hours you will be working? Ive been invited to an interview tomorrow for a supposedly full time postition. I would like it stated in writing that i would be guaranteed at least 30 hours a week. Main reason being when i worked for pizza hut 'full time' it wasnt stated in my contract and for several weeks in a row I was only given 4 hours causing me to fall into rent council tax arrears

So unless i can get it in writing that im guaranteed 30 hours so i can claim working tax credits the the job will be a no go area.

If you want a full time job you can do way better than McDonalds, dont even waste your time going to the interview.

McDonalds is for people who due to circumstances are unable to get a proper job - ie students who can only work part time.

If your circumstances are such that you are available for work full time, why not get a normal job?

Especially if you rely on your income to pay the bills!

Im available, ready and willing. Im trawling the jobsites daily but im having next to no luck at all. Trust me, this is a last last resort or at least a stop gap until something better comes along :(

Unless it's changed dramatically, McDonalds work on zero hour contracts with no guaranteed minimum. How well that works out depends on your needs, the needs of the store and how good the store management is.

It's better than nothing. Even if you're only there for a few weeks, or even a few months, I'd take it. It's a job.

Life is so easy for everyone in the world of Fox.
Come on you are a smart person right? Think of all the possibilities of why he may need to work there.

worked for mcds for 9 years as a manager (worked my way up) ..i was on 39 min hour contract, we didnt have 4 hours contracts at my place.. i can only recall having to cut hours on a day basis (which wasnt compulsary, you could stay and clean if you wanted the hours) which would return to normal the next day, and even then it was only due to a rare occurance (power cuts etc). at my resturant there were constant overtime going for the whole time i was there. Im pretty sure you wouldnt even need to worry about it, but remember it can depend on where your store is.

seriously though, like fox has said..if you can find work elsewhere do it, it is a god awfull job m8 .. regardless of what people think, its damn hard work and a huge amount of pressure and it is full of mini 18 year old hitlers who think they rule the world.. I would need paying a lot more than they do to deal with it again to be honest.. only reason i stayed there so long is because i was too busy smoking the green stuff and couldnt be bothered to sort myself out.. i left in 2004 so it may hae changed since then mind you!

I don't think that's particularly fair, if I remember rightly McDonalds are one of the largest graduate employers.

While I wouldn't want to work there, suggesting it isn't a "proper job" is somewhat harsh. A job is a job when there are bills to pay, some people really struggle to find work.

I'm with Fox on this one, there must be a million and one bars or restraunts you could go work at instead, much more social and enjoyable than a fast food place. Just spam you're cv everywhere and if possible talk to a manager and tell them what you're looking for and ask if that what they need.

So what would YOU call a zero hour contract where you have no guarantee of any hours, let alone full time hours, at any point in the future?

How are you supposed to budget around that? If there ARE bills to pay then all the more reason why a zero hour contract at Maccy D's is inferior to virtually any other full time job you can think of.

It's great for part timers and students.

Well obviousaly this is of no use to me at all. Its going to be the first question i ask.

But McDonalds DO offer contracts, my friend worked there for a short period of time and was contracted to X amount of hours at £Y per hour. He wasn't able to get a job anywhere else and completely fits into your description, but I am sure there are many hardworking people who see McDonalds as a career to pay their bills and look after their families.

I think your problem is with the lack of a contract and job security. This I would agree with and is fair advice. Saying McDonalds isn't a "proper job" is overly harsh though.

I dont think it is - a proper full time job has a 37.5-40 hours per week contract.

Anything significantly less, or with a low base hours but a 'promise' of 'more hours' isn't a proper full time job!

My missus has a zero hout contract but works around 35 hrs a week

for some folks it suits well, If we want to go away or out anywhere she just tells them tough :p

They are, however those graduates aren't going to be working behind the counter flipping burgers, which from the ounds of it is what the OP will be doing...

I agree with you, I work considerably more hours myself but would consider 40 hours to be the average for a full time job.

You said McDonalds wasn't a proper job and I still argue you are wrong and being a snob ;) You still haven't explained why being employed by McDonald's doesn't constitute a proper job, only the hours the OP mentioned would could apply to any role depending on the requirements.

Wow, you make this a black art..

I actually have a lot of respect for anyone that would rather do a job such as this as opposed to sitting on their arse all day
