McDonalds - Contract?

Good thing about McD's is if you're out of work and go work for them, yes you may be making a pittance compared to other jobs but it does give you a good standing morally with some employers, as working a bad job for little money is better than sitting on your arse all day playing on Xbox waiting for your dream job.

They also do offer a lot of training for all staff in the ideology of food hygiene/kitchen efficiency/attitude in retail toward customers etc. And while it may not give you a qualification any employer where these may be relevant they will know that they are good skills that come naturally with the job.

It's not a proper full time job, it's a crappy job as a last resort or if you've got no qualifications at all, no gcses nothing.

But it's your bread and butter, at the end of the day if money needs to be earnt you've got to earn it somehow. Why I work 2 jobs alongside my studies.
Why my mother worked crappy retail jobs for yonks, no money in hairdressing so she had to get any old job she could.

Meatloaf sorry to hear you are still struggling with the job front, I remember your threads a while back. Goodluck with Mcdonalds if it provides you with an ends to a means go for it.

I'm with the majority on this one don't work for Mcdonalds
it is a working environment that will make you go senile and I believe this along with other fast food places are next worse after janitor jobs.

Speaking from experience are you ?

Rest of my friends who are doing part time work to aid them through college/uni all go to work and complain it's boring etc, because they all do 'good' jobs working on trendy clothes shops or supermarkets on checkouts. I'm never bored working at McD's because you can constantly move around departments and apart from serving staff there is a very relaxed code of conduct and as long as you get stuff done (and well), is a good laugh working with a lot of very fun people, who you get to constantly chat/joke around with.

You should do what I've done and become a self-employed parking inspector. Basically I just drive around taking photos of cars parked inappropriately. I then trace their license plate and offer them a fine at only 50% of what the council charges. If it doesn't work out then you can just report them to the council. You send them enough offenders and you can really get in their good books, which leads to all kinds of benefits. So either way you do well for yourself, and the customers are happy because they've saved 50%. :)

Yeah I work there, I applied for a full time position but it didn't occur to me to ask for anything in writing for guaranteed hours. I didn't get hours I wanted for the first few weeks but if you show initiative and learn and respect the managers they will give you the hours you want. Also tell them to ring you first if someone phones in sick. Also ask for different shifts as different things happen in the restaurant throughout the day so if you stick to the same shift everyday you won't be able to do everything.

I was just gonna say, people have no idea how bad stoke really is.

We are the lowest paid place in the country, if you even have a job your classed as well off.

Around here if someone tells you they are on 24k a year your eyebrows go up and you class them as rich!

Im working part time in a call centre, thats all i can get, lucky ive got my final interview with the RAF in april, but if i fail that, ill be very lucky to end up with a job thats better than minimum wage

If this was another city then id normally turn my nose up and say, yeh get something better but not around here, im happy for Meatloaf if he gets the job.

In our town centre i think 85% of the job agencies have closed down as theres no work, the local paper is empty, its really bad around here
