McDonalds - Contract?

You still haven't explained why being employed by McDonald's doesn't constitute a proper job

I explained it above. In the context of the OP, it isnt a proper job.

Obviously compared with other part time jobs for, say, a student, its a proper job, but how is it a proper job for somebody after full time work?!

I actually have a lot of respect for anyone that would rather do a job such as this as opposed to sitting on their arse all day

Couldn't have worded it better myself.

There's nothing wrong with working for McDonalds if that's all you can get. And like Rotty I think that the act of taking a job you don't want so that you can at least earn a wage is commendable.

My nephew works at a McDonalds and tbh your better off working for a supermarket until something better comes along, Just sidestep fast food places.

+1 on that mate there must be bars and pubs/restrants that are taking on i wouldnt want my worst enemy to work in McD's

Im available, ready and willing. Im trawling the jobsites daily but im having next to no luck at all. Trust me, this is a last last resort or at least a stop gap until something better comes along :(

Don't just trawl job sites, upload your CV to as many recruitment and jobsites as possible. I only got my current job because I had my CV on Monster set to public and a recruiter found it while looking for someone matching criteria "xyz".

Someone looking for a possible candidate for a job will find you and contact you.

Thnaks, I'll have a look at monster. Were there any others you could recommed?

Unfortunately that's not always the case. I've uploaded my CV to probably over 100 sites (including managed ones) and have never had an out of the blue call. It's good to do but don't rely on it unless you have a lot of experience in a sought after skill/profession.

tbh I know what it's like to have no job and no prospects of the job and on top of that no jobseekers.
get anything you can, it's always better to be IN work rather than out of work!

What sector do you have experience in? It may be a better bet to try and find recruitment websites for your particular skill rather than the general ones.:)

^^

Mine were all mainly IT based places (apart from Monster) , is this your sector too?

That aimed at me or the OP? :p

Mine is Oil and Gas/environmental/mining...

Not that that's got me anywhere...

I agree and this is what I am trying to get at, you just made the point so much better than I did :) Anyone who would rather work in a position with low pay and few prospects rather than consuming JSA should be applauded.

Fine, that's fair enough and I agree with most of your points. Originally I thought you were knocking people working in McDonalds and doing them a disservice.

If you want a full time job you can do way better than McDonalds, dont even waste your time going to the interview.

McDonalds is for people who due to circumstances are unable to get a proper job - ie students who can only work part time.

If your circumstances are such that you are available for work full time, why not get a normal job?

Especially if you rely on your income to pay the bills!

Bit harsh dude, at least he is willing to get up and work, to earn his keep rather then been a sponger on the doll. Good on him.

I work there part time, when you're at the interview you right down your desired hours and such but I find this isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Full time staff may get prioritised with hours since they tend to rely on it more than the part time student staff but not entirely sure.

Ive had a rough ride the last 4 months. My wife and kids keft me on at the beginning of december and my temp contract at tesco wasnt renewed either. I struggled with nights mainly because i couldnt get my sleep with all the kids in the house waking me up. If they had left a few weeks earlier id probably have settled into more of a routine and managed to keep my job.

After CSA, social fund, rent and coucil tax deductions im left with about £45 a week to get gas, electric, food, tv licence and water rates.

Luckily i had an inkling things were going to change so i was putting a few quid aside for a few months befpore she left which has helped me survive so far.

That would have been pretty hypocritical given I worked in retail throughout my education, and other than a proper contract retail is arguably no better than a McDonalds job.
