Mclaren MP4-27 launch thread

Nice car. Pity it won't make the slightest bit of difference.

Vettel will still find those extra tenths, get most poles, win most races, take the championship.: z8sba.gif

Lewis will start the season all cheery, :) :) :)

and halfway through start looking pee'd off and not saying much in interviews.

Jensen will continue to be nonchalant, smiling, sucking on his drink straw and take it all in his stride.

Yeah it was to stop people fluking an advantage. But this years tires are also very different from last year, so odd that they are not fixing it this year too...?

I would imagine they are still not going to be as different as going from Bridgestone to Pirelli were.

something for the green dream team to think about. :P

Scarbs also said this in his analysis

With the second year of the fixed weight distribution and Pirelli tyres, little needed to be done to the cars basic layout. Running much the same chassis, fuel tank size and gearbox, so the wheelbase is similar to the previous car.

When did they decide that?

When did they decide that?

thats confusing - Im sure I read somewhere that this year's car is a lot smaller than last year (I guess wheelbase could still be the same, but unlikely) and everyone over-estimated the size of fuel tank last season, so expecting that to shrink too

Wish I could remember where I saw this though

hmmm was it Japan that JB crawled over the start /finsih line and stopped at the pitlane exit (as though running very low on fuel).....mind you I guess they could have different size fuel cells for different races but even so looks like McLaren got it practically spot on for that race (but near the end of the season too so maybe thats why?)

didnt someone from Mercedes say at the last race or over the winter that their KERS would be changing over the winter (or hinting at weight loss /miniturisation?) - just surprised that McLaren are saying there hasnt been much change (admittedly they arent going to boast about it before it even hits the track, but still......)

KERS and fuel size comments are on p18/19 of the latest F1 racing mag (McLaren car double spread)

Cant currently see where I got the idea from for the car length / wheelbase change but could be the same place :)

(maybe the mag is completely wrong - but Im glad I remember where I read some of the comments lol)

A few of the technical analysts seem very down on the McLaren, makes me slightly concerned. Hopefully their design path proves successful.

Are the BBC going to do a video for each of the car launches? Or are they going to do it only for half the teams, and then just recycle highlights from others for the rest?

:D
