Hi,

Car went in for its MOT at a local garage. The mechanic then drove the car to another test center and back again.

At no point was it implied / expressed / agreed/ mentioned that he had any sort of permission to drive the vehicle off the premises, and certainly not on a 12 mile round trip.

What can I do about this? Would this count as TWOC?

I have proof, because the certificate was printed at the other test center.

When questioned the garage admitted it and the owner just swore a lot.

Thanks

lot's of garages do this

did you ask or did you assume it would be tested on their premises?
do they carry out MOT's usually and was their tester off sick or their ramp broken?
negotiate £10 off the bill if it'll make you feel better.

Well I only assumed that the test would be done on site, but its a garage with several ramp bays and vosa MOT test center signs. I have no reason to think that they couldn't have done the test there.

Very common. The other test centre is named on the certificate so it's not like they are trying to conceal this.

What's the big deal? My BMW last year was taken to a proper cooper BMW garage, on the certificate, it says it was done at JCT 900 VW....big deal? This year, it was done on the BM premises, I wouldn't worry.

Coukld be worse my last mot on my corolla, they used the trip computer, not the odometer reading but i didnt rewalise till i came to sell the car...looks like i tried to clock it...

I'd be annoyed but only with myself for getting such a bad deal on an MOT the place I took it to could afford to drive it somewhere else, pay them to do it and still profit out of me.
