Anyone up for the test?

I'll provide the media file and the settings and we will compare results in encoding a AVCHD to MP4 in handbrake.

:)

I had a quick play with handbrake.
Seems the h264 encoding uses multi cores.
The MP4 encoding seemed to only max out one core.

Would seem that we need to encode something to h264 on an i7 and an X6.
I have both so could do a test, but what souce file type would be best.

A DVD to h264 perhaps ?

The X6's are slightly slower clock for clock than the i7's.

The 3.2GHz 1090T is slightly faster than the 2.93GHz i7 870.

So from that you can say that the X6 needs about a 200MHz advantage to match an i7.

So a 4GHz X6 should be roughly ~3.8GHz i7 for encoding purposes.

Good article here which compares loads of oc'd and non oc'd cpu's encoding:

settled then amd are rubbish at encoding everyone buy intel

haha hardly.

A stock 1055T is as fast at encoding as the much more expensive i7 930. Not to mention the mobo and memory costs are less.

Once you start overclocking the i7's take the lead, but again the X6's will cost less.

So price performance is probably more in favour of the X6.

Sheer performance however is certainly still with an OC'd i7.

but the i7 920 is actually slower than the 1055T , dont forget turbo mode of the 920 @ 2.83GHZ , 1055T is clocked at 2.8GHZ .
