just finished playing it for today and its amazing the battles are 10x better than rome total war and thats saying something :) The game seems to be well made as well as there was no slowdown even with big armies.
Ive completed the tutorial and just finished agincourt but its that pavia thats giving me trouble but ill do it again soon :)

It is definitely taking a step in the right direction regards the graphics engine and gameplay but what concerns me is the fact that the data files have been encrypted! This is a kick in the teeth for the community. I wouldnt be playing Rome Total War still if it wasnt for the modding community, so they may have shot themselves in the foot.

Let's hope it was only the Pc Gamer demo that they encrypted and not the retail version.

wow i suck at this game, i really like the battles with all the people, and the game runs fantastically considering how much is going on, but its not really the sort of game to keep me interested long, then again, nothing really is these days.

You do realise that the "battles" themselves are just a tiny part of the overall game?

the campaign is far better than the historical battles, plus the series has fantastic community support with many MODS ...

i was more eager to find out if this version would run on my PC as i prefer this type of RTS over CoH,

MTW2 and ET:QW are the only two games on the horizon that seem to float my boat o_0

My feelings:

Graphics:
- Very nice, love the more colourful units, and all the flags and pennants look cool (bit awkward when you've got several units in a melee though!).
- Love the grass, sort of soft look to the terrain which is nice
- Animations are nice, love the individual fights you get

Gameplay:
- Movement speed toned down which is nice
- Kill speeds still seem a little high, but the units are upgraded ones so waiting to see what they are like at the default settings
- Very difficult to get a feel for the AI as it's heavily scripted in the scenarios, some areas of concern (let's march my infantry VERY SLOWLY through the stakes while they get slaughtered by archers) but as above, willing to wait and see what it's like in normal battles.
- Interface is a bit awkward imo, probably because I'm used to Rome I guess, but as an example, I find the speed buttons quite awkward to use and they don't always seem to register

Overall it's very promising, I always preferred the setting and gameplay of Medieval over Rome (which provided a much more visceral feel imo) so I'm really looking forward to this.

I've also read that the demo is from quite an old build, and they are hoping to release a more up to date and more optimized demo closer to release (not sure how true that is though).

Played this last night, if you played any of the Total War series you can skip the tutorial and go straight in.

I loved it, thought it was brilliantly displayed a little laggy on maxed out settings but overall enjoyable.

The one gripe I had was cavalry, they seemed to do this gallop on the spot thing when charging a mass of troops, very annoying.

The units felt more independant to the rest of group which initially felt like I was handling a mass of units rather than a group of copy and pasted units. The banners and blood added to the choppy battle.

Overall can't wait though I feel a little bitter as its just medieveal total war with a glazed rome total war engine on it, however I'll still buy it :)

its pretty enough I spose. CAnt wait to see how big the map is. They got the americas in there and Aztec people so it must be huge

That aspect opens up later in the game with further discoveries be it a technological building(s). Unless they have incorporated a tech tree.

I pity your situation thats why theres an option for text only, so your game would look like this.
