Medieval 2 Demo

After some more time on the demo I can safely say I will pre-order my copy :D

Yes, the two historical battles are heavily scripted, hence the charging cavalry towards the same spot every time, but this can be forgiven. To be honest they weren't the best demo battles in my honest opinion because of the scripting - but they do give a pretty good indication of how it will shape up. I too read that the demo was from a fairly old build of the engine hence the dodgy framerates and lack of AMD/Crossfire support. Hopefully this or at least some of the problems will be resolved in the retail version.

I absolutely love the sound effects in the game however, even though they "borrow" from RTW quite heavily too. That musket fire is awesome. Especially on 5.1 surround.

It depresses me - I must be the only person on the planet who can't get into these Total War games. :( Must try this demo on my shiny new Radeon.

I just played it then and im going to have to get a new GFX card. It was rapeing mine for all its worth :(

Agreed, it sounds ace.

I can get it running pretty smoothly on my machine on one of the maps, everything on max. I think it looks really nice, especially the spray of blood.

It will take some time to get used to the interface though - I dont know what they've done to it but it does "feel" different. I personally don't like the interface graphics that much but they hopefully can change ;) It might just be because it's still beta (fingers crossed anyway).

It does look a little rough around the edges. I prefer where the formation button is, took me some time to find the 'group units' one though.

I couldnt work out how to grab a single soldier in this and i swaer they said you can do that.

OIne thiong i hate is the camera, Im not sure what they did to it but i just can seem to control it :p

I have just downloaded it and had a go.

Quite impressed. I had never played any of the other versions, so this is new to me.

I found the graphics pretty good and it played very smooth. For some reason I can't get used to the camera. I seem to go all over the place.

I think I need a lot of practice as I just got my a** kicked!!! Oh Well... :o

I think I will be pre ordering.....

Single soldier? Why would you want a single person?

Camera seems right for me, isn't it the same as R:TW? Or have I moved on too quickly?

Just to move one here and there to atract Fire from cannons and archers away from the Main unit :p

And to use to put in frount of on comming people to get in the way while you let the general run away while you regroup :D

:D

lol!! I pity your soldiers :D using them as live bait.

No you cant specifically select a single unit unless of course you get them all killed, and you've one man left (which I've seen before).

Isn't that a bad thing? :D

Not if he can live to fight again :D

If it helps me win then a few Sacrafices will be used :p

Small half dead units from previous battles get used to lure big armys next to my town walls in RTR :p

I played the demo over and over for a bit on different graphics settings. Unit detail is what i found to be the defining FPS factor by far!.

Overall i really enjoyed the demo but the historical battles was never my bag with this game, it's always been the SP Campaign which is looking really refined.

£30 under the pillow for November 11th.
