Medieval Weapons

For some perspective a Polar Bear can be 10 foot tall and weigh 70 stone with what are essentially daggers for claws, a huge powerful jaw and thick fur and skin. They prey on Walrus which can weigh upto 2,200kg (315 stone)
Yes, I think a small medieval knife to kill myself with before the bear got to me would be the best option.

Spear. Whatever the animal, I want to keep them as far away from me as possible whilst I poke their face. I'd get myself with some cover behind me and just hope they get tired of being prodded.

A large hole between me and the beasties, pitch / tar and a torch / source of fire.
Hand to hand is going to be phenomenally tricky with any of them. Fire would be best defence / offence.

Tough one really.

If we assume that the rules of engagement are.

I am on my own,
It is close quarters (IE I dont get to see them coming from 400 Yards away)
The Weapons will be personal weapons.

I think one Man, alone, in close quarters would have a poor prospect even with modern personal weapons short of a machine gun.

As for Medieval ones o:0

Bear/gorillas.

Large, Powerful and very fast animals. Very hard to disable or kill!

You would only get one shot with a Bow (Any sort) and you would be unlikely to stop them with that so they would get you anyway
Again, with a sword, by the time they are close enough for you to use it, it would be too late.

I would look to some sort of Pike or lance to try fend them off and to inflict damage at a distance with a short sword if that fails.

But I wouldn't rate my chances.

Wolves.

a long weapon would be useless, While you are sticking one wolf, his mates would get you.

I would want to inflict damage close up, fast and hard. Mace and small shield (Which is also a weapon)

But a determined pack of wolves will get you in the end 100% of the time! (you would only have a realistic chance if you were able to back up against a cliff or a large tree)

As for modern personal weapons, short of a machine gun,

Large calibre handgun. Something like a 0.50cal Desert Eagle (Or maybe two, And a couple of spare clips. IIRC you only get 5 rounds/clip on the 0.50) for the Bear/Gorillas

For the Wolves, Whatever handgun has the largest number of rounds in the clip (Glock??) with a baseball bat as a backup (Hopefully the noise and casualties will scare them off, But again, if the wolves really want you, they will get you)

I agree about not really having a chance, no matter what weapons used. However, I'd like to put across that maces were generally specialised for fighting against armoured opponents, long weapons such as polearms are not at all useless for dealing with multiple opponents, and pikes are cumbersome and hideously impractical weapons and only truly effective when in a formation with other pikemen (and even then only in certain situations).
