Meg 2: The Trench

I miss sea based ‘horror’ as I’m a big fanboi of it. I always wished there was a sequel to Deep Rising or Underwater.

I also had YT recommending Black Demon. I’ll likely watch it too because sharks rock :D

Literally one of the greatest modern "B-Movies" ever IMHO, I absolutely love everything about that film, even the fairly naff CGI (by modern standards).

I totally agree. I adore DR and watch it every 6 months or so.

That one shot with the shark diving out at the t-rex reminded me a lot of a similar scene at the end of Jurassic World.

ed. must be the summer of big shark movies:

I was in the mood to watch Meg1 for a while now and just watched it last night after seeing this trailer for the second hah.

Still fun

I don't think I've seen the first one, hopefully it's on one of the streaming services, i like a cheesy so bad it's good film every now and then

It's getting savaged by some the reviews so far with others giving faint praise -

Guardian - 2/5 - "the sequel alternately treads water and splashes around frantically in search of an identity."

Empire - 3/5 - "Ben Wheatley gears up for a stupidly fun finale that revels in unleashing toothy chaos."

BBC - 1/5 - "very distant, shabby descendant of Jaws", writes Caryn James, with some glimmers of meta wit but also plenty of "leaden dialogue and predictable action"

Independent - 2/5 - "It’s derivative, yes, but not tiresome."

Variety - "It is numbingly formulaic, promiscuously derivative and, for a few stretches (like the over-the-top third act), diverting in its very shamelessness."

Saw it last night. Amusing and action packed but not great.
They've also decided that scientific plausibility is completely unnecessary, apparently. But it's a movie about giant sharks so hardly a surprise.
I did like what they did with the token black guy from the first film though. That was good.
Overall, it's a cheesy, easy watch but you won't miss anything if you wait until it's free on streaming.

Took the kids to see it today, enjoyed it but honestly didn't find it anywhere near as good as the first one, and if there were comedy moments then they fell flat on me - seemed pretty serious overall.

3/5

Decided to watch the first one last night at home for the first time, it wasn't awful, just so mediocre and forgettable.

Don't think I'll bother will this now, particularly as a lot of people are saying it's actually worse than the original

Yeah honestly I keep seeing trailers for this one and I know I've seen the first one but I can't remember a single thing about it other than shark and Statham.

Saw it today. Sharks and Statham is more than enough for me!

Film wasn't as good as the 1st one, due to too much comedy. Having said that the shark and trench bits were great and it definitely ramps up everything from the 1st film

7/10.

6/10 is more realistic but I'm a sucker for shark films.

Took the kids with me the other day. It was ok. Kids enjoyed it.

First one was great.
