Megahalem has got competition...

Well if I can get the 1156 bracket for the Nordwand in 2-3 weeks I'll be happy, but if Thermolab release their bracket in the same period then I have a tough choice to make.

Now I realise Helios, it was YOU that reviewed both coolers :)

I must say congratulations on two thorough and informative reviews, and I think I'd be happy with either cooler in my system.

The TB comes with 4 clips for 2 fans. You can't go wrong with the Noctua NF-P12 but there are also the Akasa Apaches which are slightly cheaper with good specs. I've also heard good things about Noiseblocker but I'm not sure which ones to go for.

Great, thanks :)

I'll price some of those up!

I'm planning to go Thermolab +2 Apaches, if I shop around, I can save a few bob too :)

I finally decided against the H50 as there is no assurance to the lifespan, and thus resale value, of the product.

Rather get a good chunk of metal than I can use when I move to the i platform or sell without too much depreciation.

Sounds like a good plan. I'll have a shop around too ;)

I looked at the H50 and while it looks good I too would prefer something that can't go wrong, as such.

Hmmm... after further review reading, I'm not going with the Thermolab, the mounting system for 775 is really complicated.

Looking at the HDT-S1283, just reading more reviews.

Right, I've decided on the Megahalems, every review has them top or in the top 3, the mounting system is good, and with 2 Apaches it should perform great.

I would have loved to save a tenner and go with the Baram, and even considered the Nordwand, but with pricing so close to the Megahalems, and me wanting to use my own fans, they are still king.

The installation on earlier models was a pain admittedly with the Thermolab Baram but they have updated it and it's very easy to install.

I wish I could get hold of a Prolimatech Megahalem to compare it with.

And just like that, my ***** side comes in to play... :D

Mounting method looks good, I wonder if OCUK can confirm that they have the new variant?

I'm stuck between nordwad megahalems or the new rev.B tuniq tower or baram.

The tuniq is £10 cheaper though... and the baram is aswell. I'm on the intel stock cooler as it is :/ So anything will be an improvement I think. :p

The Tuniq is better than the Nordwand from my own tests but it is also a bit louder coming with a 2000rpm fan rather than a 1500rpm one. In fact, with only one fan, it is comparable to the Thermolab Baram push/pull. If noise isn't an issue, the Tuniq is the better bet overall. The Tuniq does also have a fan control but I have yet to see how it performs with a low/medium fan speed.

Alpenföhn Nordwand
  • Excellent performance
  • Comes with a fan
  • Quiet

Thermolab Baram
  • Cheaper than the Nordwand
  • No fan but freedom to get you own one
  • More efficient heatsink design that the Nordwand

Tuniq Tower
  • Brilliant performance
  • Fan already included
  • Very cheap
  • Somewhat loud but comes with a fan controller

All of them easily handles a Core i7 920 at 4ghz.

Or a Megahalems with 2 apaches? Which would you go for?
