I highly recommend this product for removing scratches and blemishes...

These marks wouldn't come out with normal car shampoo no matter how hard I rubbed but after using Meguiars Ultimate Compound and rubbing it in thoroughly using an applicator pad I was able to remove the marks.

Those look like tar marks, you can use Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover. That will remove those without having to 'cut' into the paint or clear coat with a compound.

I certainly wouldn't have wanted to polish a contaminated panel.

As already mentioned, a clay bar with some lube or a good tar remover would have dealt with that.

I lost all faith in tar removers when that turtle wax stuff didn’t work, this despite being assured it was good stuff by the motor factors.

It's rarely a good idea to trust the recommendation of someone directly trying to sell you stuff, as you never know (at least initially) if they're a genuinely helpful person trying to sell you the best product for you or just trying to shift whatever they think they can convince you to buy with a decent profit margin in it.

All I know for sure was that I had good results with the ultimate compound, this gives me great confidence in the product and gets my recommendation.

All people are trying to tell you is that it's not necessarily the appropriate product for the job - it's a (relatively mild) cutting compound. It cuts away your paint when you use it. If you use it to routinely remove tar spotting etc. you'll be removing paint every time you do it. If you did it frequently, you'll eventually make the paint very thin, possibly even wear through it entirely if you're really gung ho with it (unlikely but still, in theory you could).

Turtle Wax products are, by and large, crap.

Try Autoglym Intenstive Tar Remover next time. A bottle of that is about £6.

Compounds and polishes are not designed to be used on anything other than completely clean and contaminant-free paintwork.

It is good stuff. I've used it on scuffs and scratches with good results for a hand applied product. I've never been happy enough with the finish to call it an "all-in-one" though and had to finish up with something a bit less abrasive to get rid of the haze.

Good brand but pricey, i guess you get what you pay for

After my experience with the Turtle wax stuff from the local motor factors, I decided to order the Meguiars Ultimate Compound from a well known internet store and it was £ 11.12 ex VAT with free delivery.

Not that expensive really and now I know it works and is safe to use.

All I did to finish was wash it down with some Armor All wash and wax then I dried it with a microfibre drying towel. It looks good to me.

Just be mindful that it is still an abrasive and not meant to be used as a cleaner, and you could cause deeper scratches trying to polish away marks and contamination like that.
