Hi, I got back from uni today and found the following has occurred:

holefc4.jpg

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Has the liquid exploded? I have no clue what could have caused it. Seems like a strange place to go if it was an electrical fault?

It should be under warranty still as I bought it from ocuk last year...

Wow, never seen anything like that before. As said in a previous post a focused picture would be better. What's that red inside the burnt hole?

This is the only camera I have at the moment sorry. If you look very closely the black liquid is a little red the camera just seems to have made it look much more red than it is. Yeah the plastic on the outside has warped as well.... My first thought was that someone had put a lighter/cig up to it but the plastic outside is warped as well not just the hole. Could the sun have somehow done it?

By the direction of the melt pattern on the left side of the monitor it looks like an external heat source in a left to right (as you look at the photo) direction. Almost like a pair of straighteners or similar has melted it.

Yea that is quite worrying.. if it wasn't a problem with the monitor and someone did this while I was out (means someone has keys to my room).

As Munkeh said, the worse frame melting seems to be on the far left, away from the screen hole? In which case, unless your actual frame contains electronics (not the case in ANY monitor as far as I know), this must have been some sort of external source to get that heat pattern, surely?

looks like the tip of an Iron look at the way the burn on the display is in a triangle shape and lines up with the melting on the frame...start checking irons mate.

Are there the steam holes from the iron in the frame too?

You ****** anyone off? Only other thing I could think of is cleaner accident, but I fail to see HOW the hell that would happen.

They'd be able to get the reflection of the person's face that was 'imprinted' in the screen and identify them :D

You just know there are some Epithelials in the melted plastic!

back on topic: it's got to be an external source, do you have a lamp or something that may have been on/hot and touched it? do you have a cleaner?

why would anyone break into a room and start soldering on the desk? or straighten their hair?

think this one's for sherlock

definately agree though that no monitor electronics can hurt the frame however badly it explodes. and most lcd panels in monitors have metal casing so the lcdelectronics shouldn't actualy get to it at all.. (unlike laptops where the lcd panels aren't protected by anything apart from the laptop caseing)
