The board would only recognise 2gb of ram unless I installed them in single channel mode. Windows and the bios both could see 4gb but only 2gb was available.

the only thing i could suggest which was advised to me also was check the RAM, you said you have tried them individually and work well so am sure thats not the problem, maybe try cleaning the 2nd and 3rd slots you use for triple channel? maybe the fault is in them? or the cpu may have been installed too tight. many possibilities, just hope you get a new one and see if it happens on there also, that way you can rule the MoBo out..
