Looking at memory for an AMD build with the GIGABYTE GA-B350M-GAMING 3 mobo and Ryzen 5 1600

Originally I was looking at
GEIL EVO X AMD EDITION 32GB (16GBX2) PC4-19200 2400MHZ DUAL CHANNEL KIT - BLACK (GAEXY432GB2400C16D but is there a better alternative as supplies of this limited

Check the QVL to be sure of compatibility: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-AB350M-Gaming-3-rev-1x#support-doc you don't have to be super strict with it, just make sure the product code of the kit you are planning to purchase is close enough to something on there, for obvious reasons they cant test every single kit out there in every board they make.

For instance, this was my first ever RyZen motherboard, I brought G.Skill F4-3200C16D-16GTZR for it, not on the QVL but there was a kit which was damn close enough that they had tested.

Internet is littered with problems with ram kits for Ryzen 1600 so choose carefully and as Jamin said its always safer to stick to QVL motherboard list to be safe even though Bios updates have made things a lot better.

That being said you may want to try and find the kits that use Samsung -b dies as they are the best for easy overclocking and Ryzen seems to like them the most.

generally speaking most CL16 is Hynix and CL 14 is usually samsung -b but they do sometimes use both dies in same kit.

for example i have 16 gigs of CMU32GX4M4C3400C16 version 4.31 which are samsung -b running at 3333 mhz on a Ryzen 1600 and MSI B350 motherboard.

as a rule any Corsair with version 4.xx is Samsung and version 5.xx is Hynix.

Thanks for the feedback

With regards the Ryzen CPU; is this with all Ryzen chips or mainly the 1600? Would I be better off with a 1700 or 1800?

On the Geil memory as an example, it’s 2400mhz where as the mobo is up to 3200mhz. Maybe a silly question but is is worth making sure I get the 3200mhz memory?

Its all RyZen CPU's so it wouldn't really make a difference, the X series of CPU's have slightly better memory controllers as AMD bins the controllers as well as the cores.

as for 3200mhz, RyZen also benefits for faster ram, so the faster the better, so yes 3200mhz would be better than 2400mhz, however, there are still a lot of people who struggle to get their ram upto full speed, some boards have no issues, load XMP profile and done with it, others have to fight for it.

Again, if you decide to go with 3200mhz, check the QVL and try and get something off that or close to it.

Thanks

Just read the reviews and do seem positive

dont mind doing some leg work with Ryzen calculator and wanting to save some cash , @8 Pack xtreme kits

As a 32GB pack; how does the TEAM GROUP XTREEM " EDITION" 32GB (4X8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C14 3200MHZ fair?

I doubt it would make any difference to the 2 sets 8Pack Dark Power i already have. If they work out cheaper then go for them, the end result will be the same though.

The dark pro has a better spd for ryzen. We made it exactly for this use. Ofcourse Intel is working anyway so tweaking was done for amd. We sold almost 2000 of these kits so more than proven.
