Hey guys, i've had a read of the guide and am still a touch confused (due to my own idiocy not the guide). I'm lookig to build a new computer and have only one slight problem left. My cpu and motherboard have an fsb of 1066, should my memory speed match this or are they unrelated?

Cheers:D

That is the quad pumped value, divide it by four to get your proper fsb

*(this may be wrong as i have no knowledge of Intel chipsets or DDR2)

They'll need to atleast match.

I assume that it's a Core 2 Duo you're buying?

In which case, pc2-4200 (DDR2-533) will match the true 266 fsb.

But you'll be needing faster RAM (preferably pc2-6400/ddr2-800) if you intend to overclock it.

Core Duo indeed, i'm not entirely sure about overclocking it. Tho I suppose the price difference isn't that big, may well go for it. Thanks for your help :D

Assuming that you intend to run the memory and CPU speeds matched (aka 1:1 ratio or synchronously) then I would suggest you buy the best memory you can find rated at PC6400 or DDR800.

The current C2D 6*** CPUs run at 266mhz FSB. PC6400 memory actually runs at 400mhz. So, it will easily run at your stock speed and also allow you headroom should you decide to OC. You can run 1:1 at a minimum of 400mhz on the memory if your CPU will OC that fast.
