Memory Overclocking Gains On Hawaii With A 512 Bit Bus

Got a link to the benchmark? The one i just downloaded didn't have any options it just ran the benchmark and was using low res and low details.

You quoted the DL link.

Its a stand alone app. if you want to change the quality settings you can do that via the config file. its very straight forward, just follow the instruction in the config file.

See pic.

Where are the results stored? Just ran it and it completed fine but no results!!

@Zapf i hope that was a deliberate troll with the black screens as images? :p

Was just running Metro bench again yesterday running 20 loops...it turns out even 1400MHz was not stable for my Elpida and I got black screen...now has to lower it down to 1375MHz :(

Lol let it go Marine. This thread proves how worthless memory overclocking is at 1440P. You're on 1080P where the gains will be even lower.

Why don't you sell your card on an auction site and just get a custom cooled one like the MSI 290 gaming edition? Comes with Hynix memory.

That's the thing...I already fitted a Gelid cooler and the Alpenföhn vrm sink on it. It's just so very frustrating with all these effort, and I got memory that offer sub-par performance. It feel like I purchased a premium product, but ruin by "made in China" quality ram (well, I know they probably ARE made in China but still :p).

I mean if it was a £200 graphic card then yea...but I paid nearly £400 for it, and this just feel very unacceptable...(especially when seeing Gibbo saying how the memory and other people keep mention clocking memory to anything from 6000 up to 6400+ as standard...)

Lol sorry. I got it working now, found out where it saves the outputs. Just did a quick run i notice it says this though...

*DX11 Hardware Detected*

Using Default Video Settings:

Resolution: 2560 x 1440
Texture Quality: 2
Shadow Quality: 3
Anisotropic Filtering: 16
SSAO: ON
Vertical Sync: OFF
DX11 Tessellation: ON
DX11 Advanced Shadows: ON
DX11 MSAA Samples: 1

I have MSAA on x4. Is that correct?

According to the readme it says

# DX11 Full Screen Anti-Aliasing Sample Count
#
# 1 = Off, 2 = 2xAA, 4 = 4XAA
# Defaults to 1 if commented out.
DX11 MSAA Samples: 4

EDIT

I have 4 selected in the config file, but it shows as 1 for some reason.

@Marine. But at 1080 even if you get 2000mhz mem clock which is impossible without burning the card, the fps you get will be the same. Memory size affects the resolution scale and memory clock fps performance at that resolution also apparently for a 512 bit bus memory to be saturated completely you need a 4k display. With the 1080p and 1440p on 512 bit bus you dont ever gonna need oc the memory.

3.9% increase from a 30% memory overclock @1440P. Still pointless. :D

There are people who would be tempted to pay £100+ extra for "pointless" extra 3.9%. Look at the people with GTX780 who are considering upgrading to GTX780Ti, or people who paid £100 premium for a Classified and Lightning :)

In the order of priority:
Feel good factor> quality> actual performance gain> value for money :p

That 3.9% will be even lower at 1080P though and this is by far the biggest increase ive seen so far. The next highest was 2%. You just don't need to overclock the memory on 512 bit bus in most (but not all) situations. I will test Sleeping Dogs at some point. That used to net me 10% extra performance on a 384bit bus with my 7970 going from 1375mhz-1875mhz.
