Memory Prices Rising Steeply (I think)

Also do note only the Arctic White ones run at 1.35v, the Black at 1.50V and same with the Blue ones at 1.50V.
The Arctic White is certified to run at 1.35v, doesn't mean the Black won't. I have the Black and it runs fine at 1.35v

Thanks for the info Purgatory and Blackale.

I have been reading up on the Vengeance Whites/Blues/Black LP ram a lot and apparently if I do buy 2 of the 8GB white sets then there is the chance that they might not play well together due to miss matched ICs.

I might just go for the 16GB Blue matched set to be safe and then try it at 1.35V and see what happens...

and again

Based on what I have seen, not sure of the units they are using but the wholesale price for DRAM was 0.70, its now 1.02

I make that a 45% increase since its all time low which was about 5 weeks ago, not saying memory is going up by that much but it will surely start to follow this trend as supply runs out.

I read that production of DRAM has been slowed down/stopped by some manufacturers which has led to OEM PC manufacturers buying RAM in fear of supply running out later in the year. This will probably end up raising the prices this year. All speculation though.

But with the current trend of people buying tablets more than PCs - who knows what will happen.

I bought 16GB Corsair Vengeance LP in a nice blue colour just in case though...

The memory I've been watching has risen by £2, was looking at upgrading end of the month, might be a case of getting the memory now before prices rise too much.

I think memory atm is poor, poor speed/timings ratio tbh.

the old dominator GT and ocz blade where great.

still have my now at 2.1ghz 18,8,9,8.

Glad you are keeping an eye on it littlepuppy. Bet you've got a lot of memory 'in the bank' to unleash when things hot up?!

It would be interesting to see a chart of the actual retail price fluctuations from various retailers to see if they raise / lower their prices in tandem or whether it is intrinsically linked to demand at that particular seller.

I dont really understand the link between those prices and what we pay, seems like there may be quite a big "lag"

Stuff that is on sale now will have been bought from the manufacturers at a different price (probably a few weeks ago), so prices won't move until fresh shipments have to be bought.

As current supplies run out and fresh ones are bought the prices will slowly creep upwards.

HDD's went up in price due to the future buy in price of new stock and prices didn't stay at a level commensurate to what had been paid for current stock.

Is RAM bought in a different way to HDD's?
