Memtest

Hi,

What tests do you guys run on memtest? Or is there only one?

I went here http://www.memtest86.com/ to download it but there are so many options...

Can someone kindly get me started?

Please advise

Thanks

Try Memtest for windows instead.
This is now considered to be the more thorough tester:

However if you still want to give them DOS version a try, then this would be the one to go for:

Test 8 is best for overclocking and timings checking but once set you need to run a 24hr loop on all tests.

Not too sure about windows memtest being better - dos has always been good so id stick with that. Dfi boards have it built into the bios

right...

but which one do I download from that site? there are loads??

Also how do I run in from dos?

Supposedly I run the exe? and then choose test 8 and keep it running for 24hours?

Is it like prime95 in that if there are any errors it will just stop testing?

Please clarify......(esp on the version)

thanks

You want the version 3.2 that is installable from windows or dos unless you run linux?

Once into memtest press c,1,3 and then 8 to choose text 8, 0 to let it test. Esc to exit. Memtest keeps running and just displays the each error that comes up in a long red list

Don't bother with the version you mentioned in your first post.
That's the original memtest which is no longer updated.

The version below is by a group who took the original's source code and continue to update it:

However, as I said earlier, the windows memtest is now considered to be the better/more thorough test in so far as it will indicate memory errors in sticks that have otherwise been DOS memtest error-free:

Instructions for use are on the respective pages or within readme files downloaded with the app.

Cheers.....

Can I run the system as normal whilst the test is going on in the background?
