Men wearing burka's rob selfridges

I'm not actually proposing anything. But, it wouldn't be acceptable for people to walk around wearing a balaclava...if I went into a shop wearing one, I'd understandably be asked to take it off and might even be kicked out of the shop. I somehow doubt this happens to burka wearers.

By the way, I despise all religions equally.

Those of you who are commenting that people riding motorbikes or doing surgery etc, by the same logic, shouldn't be wearing facial coverings, the fact is that you wouldn't wear any of that stuff in a shop or an airport!

Actually you are allowed to wear a balaclava in public as far as I'm aware.

Why?? You don't think someone would ask you to take it off if you went into their shops wearing it? Honestly?

I'm not trying to discriminate particularly against religious people here. I don't think anyone should be covering their faces when security is an issue. The point is, however, these 'women' (could be men for all we know) shouldn't be an exception.

I'll try it. I very much suspect I will be fine.

Not when the "security issue" is disproportional, I don't think it should be allowed.

edit:

What I mean by that is it won't stop crime and so will unnecessarily infringe on other people's rights. You think a criminal will care that a shop has a "no balaclava/burka" policy? It's a violent smash and grab.

Haha I'm sure you'll be fine, but I doubt they'll be happy. Try doing it at the bank or at an airport.

Your second point I don't understand...

Again, I am pretty sure you are allowed to wear it at an airport. However you will need to temporarily remove it when asked to do so by a police officer.

Need someone knowledgeable to confirm or deny though.

It's why a couple of years ago there was talk of passing a law to ban it.

Walking around town or in a shop wearing a balaclava will cause a great deal of suspicion, a burka doesn't, which is why the criminals in this case choose the latter.

If some kind of headwear becomes fashionable or common for whatever reason, of course it will attract less suspicion. However, the perceptions of others is irrelevant to a persons rights.

It reminds me of the facekini craze atm.

How about all the European lot who come over and taking your job?
What, the Spanish and the Polish? That's just free movement within the European market. And frankly you don't notice them because they speak better English than we do, don't follow the religion of peace and ritual beheadings and have successfully blended in.

I think things that cover the face except for the eyes should be banned in public also.

It's definitely unsettling
The inch thick makeup that the Essex girls wear should be banned on H&S grounds. It's not as if YouTube isn't full of girls showing exactly how to do it properly, those hags have no excuse.

Racist!

Off with his foreskin!

Heh, I remember old threads debating whether burkhas should be banned in public. Many people including myself pointed out the danger of allowing items of clothing that obscure the face to become commonplace but the usual muppets shouted that there's no problem and that the criminal classes would not wear burkhas.

For the record I'd like to see a ban on obscuring face in public which would apply to burkhas, balaclavas and hoodies.

One of the 7/7 bombers used a Burka as a disguise to escape London post-event. Tis one of the few ways of covering your face without actually drawing much attention to yourself as they're a common enough site in London... people don't usually start random conversations with women in Burkas either...

Was pretty good timing for this gang - especially given that the police are having to be extra sensitive to the Muslim community at the moment... almost zero chance of being stopped dressed as Muslim women who've gone full-retard - certainly a novel way to approach the store and likely successful if two of them hadn't fallen off their scooter.

How about no one is allowed to wear bulky clothing in case they are concealing axes?

I really doubt a store like Selfridges is ever going to ban Burkas... They make a ridiculous amount of money every spring-> mid summer when half the middle east's upper class all come to live in their London homes.

Good old British - just make it illegal

Such a retarded country. Glad I got out.

come off it... I could see the logic with banning Burka's perhaps but I don't really feel there is much to gain from doing so at present

France is ridiculous - banning headscarfs is just retarded
