I'm not sure how I could have put the subject in a concise way in the title. :p I always enjoy games which feature some aspect relating to mental illness, I guess it just adds some intrigue to a game. What games are out there which feature this and does anyone else find them fun?

An example of a game would be Bioshock. The enemies are obviously quite crazy, the whole of Rapture reminds me of an asylum. Dead Space also featured some aspects with the crazy ramblings on the wall and tense moments. F.E.A.R. was also a great albeit long game. I'm thinking S.T.A.L.K.E.R. would too, although I never get far as I've always found it boring when I try to get back in to it. The Chernobyl section of CoD 4 was also amazing with its dilapidation.

I've not come across a game set in a realistic asylum environment yet, are there any about?

your a strange one :p

Although i can see where your coming from, all the above games you mentioned are very good! especially Bioshock in my opinion!.. not sure of any others though, I've downloaded Metro 2033, not sure on its content yet as i havn't played it, but i hear its pretty grim.. dont think it relates to mental illness though!.. much!

Slightly odd mentioning cod 4's chernobyl section as it really has nothing to do with mental illness

Have you ever played silent hill 2?

Edit: And +1 to "your a strange one"

Was just about to mention the Silent Hill games :)

Also check out Psychonauts, a bit light hearted but has some very funny insights into various psychoses

Some great suggestions so far, ashamedly I've never played any Silent Hill games.

Batman Arkham Asylum? :)

I thought of this one initially, I've heard its a great game yet I know very little about it.

I guess I should have mentioned that they don't necessarily have to feature mental illness, but the underlying surroundings remind me of it. For example while playing through the Chernobyl section, it was eerie how silent (or should I say abandoned) it was and the dilapidation reminded me of how abandoned asylums appear. I could also imagine some crazed radiated beings coming from behind objects to suprise me. :p

kane & lynch

its a rather average third person shooter that is far too short, but when you get the play as the lynch character its pretty good fun. hes a bit mental, when you play as him in the coop you get to see things from 'his' perspective - you get to shoot lots of hostages. good times.

Surely you're more after post apocalypse theme than "mental health"?

A post-apocalyptic theme does really make an impact, but it's even better when mental health is incorporated additionally.

Portal I did enjoy but I didn't view it like the kind of game I'm mentioning here. Similiarly I didn't find Left 4 Dead captivated me.

It's like with films, I enjoy psychological thrillers the most. So games under this genre meet my description. I wouldn't say that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Psychological_horror_games is a complete list however.
