Merc C Class

I like them, we had a couple in my old place. Were nicely finished (though they had different materials on the console to those two, maybe a higher spec?) and nice enough to drive. No problems but they would only have been maybe 1.5 years old at most.

The guys that ran them loved them - I know no more!

Didn't realise these were so cheap! Dad is after new car and is looking at Audi class cars, but is extremely tight with money. I can't see any negativities here.

What's servicing/parts costs compared to Audi, BMW etc..

The guy's looking at the C class....a car that's just a bit bigger than a focus, it's pretty unlikely he wants a mondeo+ sized motor. Plus what's the cost of a 2008 5 / A6 ?

w204 looks a lot better with the star grill imo not the slatt grill but nice motors and reletivly cheap

you may find the 2.2 a bit sluggish tho depends what you are used to.

a 350 would be awesome

this grill looks good on them

and the new w205 looks sweet cant wait

Ridiculous, sadly. It's always whats put me off as I've loved the styling of the E Class for some time. Servicing costs seem to be a league above that of BMW for no good reason. The warranty costs are also comedy-expensive, if you've ever got a need for a laugh and a spare 5 minutes call up and get a quote. It often seems double the cost of the equivilent BMW despite being underwritten by the same firm. I suspect this reflects the higher of fixing them.

The sport models have that grille and the lower models like the elegance have the more conservative/older style grille. How good are the manual gearboxes? The vast majority will be the auto which is meant to be very good if you prefer them.

This is what is concerning me. I would be happy to go down the indy route though as it's out of warranty. There's no point going through an indy with BMW with their prices at the moment tbh. What are general thoughts about derv vs petrol turbo?

They don't do many petrol turbos (Infact I think only the V12's are ever turbocharged). The petrol models are supercharged.

I did some research into SL's once and rapidly came up with the idea that although with BMW an indy isnt worth the bother for routine servicing with Mercedes you'd have to be bonkers to go anywhere near a main dealer. A thought reinforced when I called my local main dealer just for the price of a Service A and a Service B on a '350. They refused to tell me - they actually refused - and put me through to Sales. Who didn't know and said he'd call back. He never did.

I just don't really understand it. Is it that BMW are cheap for the type of car servicing wise or just that Mercedes are expensive?
