mercedes / pirelli tribunal thread

lol at Merc now having to miss what was going to be the young drivers test, but is in fact now going to be a normal test session with the normal drivers!

Haha, in your face Merc.

Pretty sure Merc have done well enough out of their own test to not be overly worried about it...

Hahahah man could they have worded that any worse?

It makes it sound like Pirelli don't know how to build a tyre that doesn't go bang, which is obviously silly. They could easily make a tyre last 3 races if they wanted to.

So, now that it's no longer a Young Drivers test, does that mean Mercedes are allowed to take part in it? ;)

I'm not sure, they could perhaps get around it somehow with a lawyer if needs be but they have already stated to the press that they will not be taking part in any of it as part of accepting the punishment already given. It would cause complete furore if they did partake in the test now and they quite rightly know it, let's face it!

Don't they have to now and can't the FIA not even prevent them? Considering they've gone down the route of "tyres are unsafe so we're letting the race drivers test the new ones".... on grounds of safety and new tyres, how can they deny a team a chance to test the different tyres.

Even if PIrelli are going to use a type of tyre they tested with Merc, Merc didn't know which tyre was which and didn't really test it or know anything about it.

The whole thing is a farce, with no comparisons testing is essentially useless and they get banned from a test where they can compare parts all they want. All while Ferrari have apparently been running tests, paid for and run by themselves, for themselves, testing parts for the new cars..... its an embarrassment.

ALmost comes across like the two biggest/most important teams currently in F1 RBR and Ferrari can get a decent challenger punished and put at a severe disadvantage.

lolwut, do you not think running race drivers in all the other teams is going to be enough to ensure the safety of the tyres ?

Also they can't compare parts all they want. The young drivers can test parts, the F1 drivers are forbidden to and can only give feedback on the tyres. How that's policed is Merc's problem I guess - they shouldn't have been so sly to begin with should they!
