Merlin - better than heroes!

First proper series I remember - Mysterious cities of gold.

Heroes, Lost and BSG are all fantastic, I love story arcs.

Merlin is still much better than Robin Hood though!

I would imagine its more than that.

Doctor Who is £1 million per episode and that...sucks to be honest.

This is purely a guess, but I'd estimate the budget of Heroes to be aroundabout $70 million per season.

Dr Who last i read is £1million per series, so it's a couple hundren thousand per episode & the CGI looks terrible & obvious, on heroes only some is obvious where as other parts look realistic

Heroes effects are a lot better than Dr Who's. The only things I find off putting is people flying, which in my opinion doesn't look real at all. Also, series 3 so far has had a lot better effects than series 2.

Robin Hood, Merlin and Dr Who are all poorly scripted and terrible. Merlin is the best of a bad lot.
I enjoy The Tudors though, even though they are stringing it along a bit. I miss Sam Neill. He makes everything better.

The problem with UK shows is they too often rely on storylines being squeezed into one episode- aka Doctor Who, Merlin, Robin Hood and so on.
Also, they rely on very clean cut characters: its easy most of the time to spot who is good, and who is bad- no grey areas in their morality or what have you.

Larger budjets and longer seasons means that US shows have storylines/arcs spread over several episodes, which usually does wonders for development of the characters and so on.

Though Heroes never picked up for me after the brilliant first series- the second was damn poor. I'll admit I haven't watched any season three yet (worth watching?).

honestly, while I give them a little credit for at least trying.. taking established elements of the story, and throwing them away, is just plain irritating.. Take last nights episode for example, since when was Mordred a druid boy, I was always lead to believe that he was the son of Arthur and Morgana.

Would probably be better off in the music,tv, film , everything forum. Im really enjoying Merlin, its a little 'baddy of the weekish' at the moment but i hope they get some story arcs going soon. Heroes is still a lot better though, UK shows just look amateur in every way in comparison.

Can someone explain to me what merlin is actually about, beyond wizardry. I'm in two minds about bothering to watch it.

Imagine if someone had read Mort d'Arthur in it's original form. Didn't understand a word of it but thought the names were cool. They then wrote a TV series.

If there was ever a good use for the word "BINGO", then that there ladies and gentleman, is it.

Please tell me none of you were actually expecting Merlin to be factual :)

Now, if they screenplay a version of the Warlord Chronicles that would be better :)

Not factual, or at least I certainly hope no one does, but there is a certain level of acceptance that a story about King Arthur / Merlin etc would at least follow something along the lines of the accepted story.

What we are experiencing with this Merlin junk is along the lines of the story of little red riding hood was walking to the enchanted castle to met prince charming and the 3 bears said oh what a big uzi you have there! - its kind of got stuff you know you seem to recognise, but its just all wrong.

Then again, thats never stopped anyone believing in religion I suppose?
