Message for Bikers

I'm not an expert, but I always thought drivers were meant to give clear signals before turning? Not at the last second...

I was going to say the same thing in that they should indicate before tunring, not whilst as there no point in that but then does look like you are mostly to blame.

I can't see what would have beeen bad in that video as you were behind him not him behind you, so what would happen you'd bump into the back of his van? i must be wrong by the replies from everyone but that what it looks like to me

I have almost been knocked off my bike before by a blooming white van coming round the corner on the wrong side of the raod and almost hitting me.

Also has happened going the other way as there is a car on the left side of the road so when cars come to the corner they have to be on the right side of the road and as its pretty much an only right turn road they come at some speed almost hitting me sometimes.

TBH though even if the driver is being stupid i still think that the biker shouldn't put themselves in any situation that cuold potentially be bad. I know you not supposed to be i always go on the path if a car is coming past me as i worry that i could randomly hit a big stone, maybe foot slip on the peddle or something, and then bam i fall into the road and dead.

He wasn't actually indicating until he started moving.

Edit: Apologies to the OP. I've seen a number of road deaths including some friends being killed but it must be totally devastating to witness your partners death like that.

If I knew he was turning left, then I would have the followed the rule you quoted and not ridden on the inside of him.

He gave me not indication whatsoever that he going to the left, apart from my own visual perception when he started turning.

Talk about a thread hi jack but thanks for condolences!!! I will pass them on.
I was thinking that myself. How quickly you can forget about the actual topic that was posted and in this case a sensitive one. I'm sure the argument will carry on about who's right or wrong though.

Apologies but if you wanted only condolences in here then you should have made it clear and I wouldn't have mentioned all my mates who've died on bikes and other road safety issues.

I've got my test on Thursday and events like this make me very nervous and unsettled as to whether I should bike.

Only half an hour ago I was sitting in a resturant having a meal with a few friends.

A couple we know, both Police officers were talking about there future, plans they had for moving to Dumfrieshire possibly even New Zealand. We were all laughing and joking, I personally had only spoken to them both a few times but could see what decent a couple they were.

They had come to the resturant on there bikes...

On there way home to Lordswood Chatham riding along the A2 M2 a White Van man obviously oblivious to what was around him has just clipped my friend Mark..

He is now dead!!

His wife and close friends are inconsolable.... Im just shocked and stunned, I cant believe it..

I did not know him very well but I have just sat next to him for an hour.. Im shaking... its just awful awful news

Please be careful on your bikes ffs... people just don't look

Hey mate, sorry to hear about this.

I've been biking since about this time last year actually, never really had anything bad happen. I lost control of the back in a corner and it really messed with my head. I've had a low speed crash, which I walked away from, but yeah its a dangerous thing to do.

But saying that, I see so much horrific riding, lane splitting is stupidity, especially in moving traffic, GUYS JUST DONT DO THIS!

I love to ride, there's not a better feeling IMO. Too many bikers, especially those on high spec bikes ride think they aren't scared, it seems like some BS man thing at times. I'm a member of a similar forum but for bikes and the amount of nonesense they speak is scary, ride dependent on where you are, it's your life at stake.

RIP, and I hope you feel soon better,

Sorry to hear about your friend.:(

It never ceases to amaze me how many motorists can't see bikes, it's happened to me a couple of times but I've been a bit luckier. If all motorists were forced to spend a few years on bikes they would soon be able to see them.

When I did my bike test we were taught to ride defensively, but sometimes even that doesn't help.
