Messed up at work, need advice...

It always amuses me when these kind of issues crop up, that company management always feels the most appropriate course of action is to discipline and belittle the staff member involved, rather than fix the underlying problem for the good of the company.

Disciplining someone for sending an unprofessional email amuses you? And the underlying problem may yet be fixed, that's not the issue here. It's that Matt-Page can't keep his rage in tow.

I have done a similar thing in my old job. Our bosses boss was throwing her weight around (stupid, pathetic, old school teacher like approach talking down to us) and shouted at my colleague and made her cry. I sent her an email stating how much of a **** said Boss was, only since I had the Boss' name on my mind, I selected her (the boss) in the to field of the email instead of my colleague. Clicked send. About 2 seconds later I asked myself if I just did what I thought I did. Checked sent items. Oh....my....god. Tried to recall the email but I think she read it. Nothing came of it at all. Nothing said or done about it.

If I was the OP I wouldn't be worried at all. They can hardly sack you for stating your opinion on something internally, only to the IT team as well. That's nothing really in the grand scheme of things.

“So, Peter, what's happening? Aahh, now, are you going to go ahead and have those TPS reports for us this afternoon?"

:D

If you've not seen Office Space, you really should...

You saw it on TV the other day too then :p

Love that film, remembered it the other day but couldn't remember the name of it - so glad I saw it on :D

Just bend over, pull your pants down and say " sorry boss i ****ed up, now take me".

OP would be brave to be browsing the internet today even if he has survived with a slap on the wrists. Be patient people!

Hopefully Matt can turn a new page on this saga.

Bit of a delay in response but I have only just seen this thread!

Its not something they can sack him over imo. It was just a silly mistake and im sure if you hold your hands up then they can only give you a verbal or written warning at the most.

You say you have been with them for 7 years and done some hard graft for them, if that's the case then im sure you a valuable member of staff who they wouldn't want to lose of this.

Its bad when you hit send and then realise what you have done!.....live and learn!
