IGN.COM said:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the single most visually impressive game of this or any previous generation. It sets new standards in animation, acting and digital performance that really draws a defining line in the sand for all future games with cinematic ambitions. The bar has been raised.

PSM3 Magazine UK ~ 9.5/10 - Magazine Exclusive review

UK OPM ~ 10/10 - Magazine Exclusive review

Official Playstation Magazine said:
Every question posed and loose end dangled since Metal Gear first introduced stealth gaming to the world in 1987 finds closure here.... Even by the series stratospheric standards, MGS4 is a remarkable high point.... As a fan of the series I was expecting closure. What I wasn't expecting was the game's commitment to framing that closure with so many new ways to experience the series' 'evade or die' core values.

GAMERSRADAR said:
Metal Gear Solid 4 is a masterpiece, arguably the best in the series and – though many will fiercely disagree – ever so slightly disappointing. About 40% through, our notepad was scarred with breathless superlatives like 'Genius', 'Amazing' and 'Wow!!!' but by the game's conclusion, they'd given way to considered criticism and stark cries of 'WTF?'. Will you enjoy it? Yes, definitely, but while most hardcore fans will adore it, a tiny minority may be left slightly deflated by the weight of their expectations, despite the game's unarguable quality.

EUROGAMER.net ~ 8/10 - Read the review

EuroGamer said:
The first act is a tense infiltration of a war-torn Middle Eastern city, terrorised by the creepy Gekko biomechs and Liquid's personal guard, the sinister Frogs. The new enemies are great fun to gun down and outwit, and the sense of being part of a live battle-zone with several factions in play - as opposed to playing lone wolf against the guards - adds terrific atmosphere to the Metal Gear experience, even if it doesn't exactly revolutionise it.

EDGE ~ 8/10 - Read the review

EDGE said:
The year is 2014, and global warfare has been privatized, creating five military companies that constitute the world’s newest superpowers. Chairman of every board is Liquid Ocelot, Snake’s arch rival and now owner of over half the world’s armed forces. Worse, he’s managed to commander SOP, a system designed to control, through nanomachines, every weapon and soldier on the battlefield. Once again, Snake is pulled out of retirement to neutralize the threat – even though his body, bred from the genes of the legendary Big Boss, is dying on its feet.

eh is this game that good or just fanboys going crazy over a good game???

Every thread is MGS this MGS that

I think we had 2 or 3 Heavenly Sword, Uncharted and even Lair threads, when FFXIII is released I'd even expect calls for a new sub-forum.

Every time a PS3 exclusive is released it's treated like the 2nd coming of the messiah.

There were far more GTA4 threads.

T.

Aye true, and see how that game turned out :) .. Zzzzzz

Now there's some games that are out that do deserve more coverage... I might start spamming the board with Boom Blox threads!

To the OP... games(tm) have reviewed MGS 4: 8/10; Eurogamer, Edge and games(tm) have all given the same score.

Great games generate lots of attention, hence all the threads :p

I haven't read the games(tm), Eurogamer or EDGE reviews, out of interest what did they mark the game down on?

8/10 is still a good score but seems a little lower than the rest.

Bad ending, bad plot and too many cutscenes were the complaints by the reviews that marked it down.

I read the Eurogamer one and it appears they chose a reviewer who isn't a fan of the series by his own admission. So getting 8/10 is actually a decent achievement in that case.

So because they didn't like the plot they mark it down?

What happens with a game like Boom Blox that has no plot, do they mark that down too?

Strange.

I think a game like MGS is supposed to have a decent plot, seeing as it's one long story. Boom Blox is a puzzle game, not quite sure how you can have a plot there? :p

No, because Boom Blox isn't plot-centric, and something like MGS4 is. If a focal point of a game is the plot and it underdelivers, expect it to be marked down. Just as you would expect a racing game to be marked down if its cars handled like trolleys.
