Metal Gear Solid 4 Review Database

Gametrailers.com gave halo a higher rating on story than MGS4.

Doesn't matter, reviews are all different. The gamespot.com video review was a much better done review.

p.s. Don't worry, the MGS crazyness will die down soon.

Meh don't trust GT. I think the proof of bias is in the fact that all boxart thumbnails of cross-platform titles have the Xbox 360 logo on.

Well it's true really. I still love GT's immense number of video downloads and review style, but you have to admit there has to be something going on there when they purposely use X360 covers for thumbnails of all cross platform titles.

YEEE HAW!!

My PS3 has been collecting dust since i bought it. I bought MGS4 the other day and Im loving it, at last the first and currently the only reason to own a PS3(atm). PS3 owners need more games of this standard, the 360 already has loads of great exclusives.

There both have great exclusives, but only one console has the best game ever and that is MGS4!

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to add my thoughts on the game after I finishing it yesterday, I'm a long term metal gear fan and before anyone starts going fan boy I have all three home systems plus a gaming PC and have been gaming since I was 5 years old, i.e. 24 years.

First off this game is a 85% - 90% game the scores given in review don't reflect the end game as with GTA 4 it has the added 5% hype button pressed by reviewers.

I want to go over the issues with the game first before going over the positives

Whilst Metal Gear games do have long, long cut scenes, this time it's to much at times. Whilst Metal gear 2 got slapped by the public and press for a long cut scene, then play the game for less than 1 minute (and one of the many that stick in my mind was less than 20 secs) then your back to another very long cut scene next thing over 1 hour has gone past, why would this game get away with it.

Loading......., how many times does it need to load it gets like a joke after a bit.

Installing......, that’s right 6 installs for the game; the first time it happened I thought it was a joke built into the game but 6-8 minutes later for each act it's no joke
(I hate to say it give me a disk swap anytime)

Run and gun!
Bit of an odd one for a Metal Gear game to have some much ammo on the go plus if you run out just call in for more, i think it dumbs the game down and takes it away from Metal Gear.

The good stuff,

Story
Once you get to act 3 "Third Sun" the story really starts to get going and keeps going full speed to the end battle, then opens up again after the end!

Visuals
The game looks great and looks really good whilst playing a great point in video game history.

Sound
For anyone with a really good home cinema system you’re in for what can only be passed as the greatest sound on any game ever made, with full and consistent use of the rear channels, bass to blow your roof off “this is living”

Game play
Well it's Metal Gear, which ever way you look at it if you like metal gear you will like this one, if you have never played a Metal Gear Game, go find a copy of the Metal gear for PS1 or Twin snakes for GameCube and start the whole thing right, as playing 4 first will change your story.

Final Game bits not a spoiler!

Disk swap cut scene, Whilst clearly pro Blu Ray, I'm not so sure people are getting the right reference from it, if I remember right at the point that cut scene happens in 4, that’s was the same place the disk swap happened on Twin snakes for GameCube.

The Big question!

Can it be done on 360?

Short answer yes,

From start to finish I only used six axis once, and that’s near the end of the game whilst not giving anything away pulling down on the L stick would have worked just as well, the big one “graphics” could it be done on 360, simple really yes.

The main kicking point for 360 was space on the disk, yes it would mean more than one disk for 360, however when you factor the installs all 6 of them totalling around 40 minutes for the PS3 that’s worse than swapping a disk.

However it's not up to me to make it on 360, but I would put my hand on my heart to say yes it could be done.

Hope that helps, I'm sure someone is going to have a pop, but I just tell it like it is.

If it was to be on 360, they would have to change the PS3 controller snakes uses to a 360 controller. The MK2 will probably end up getting the RROD. :/

spoiler.

At the end of the game, Sunny and her friend are playing with the MK2 and using the six-axis to controll it. The little kid is making the MK2 jump up at down by moving the controller. They would have to cut this part out.

If MGS4 would make the jump to xbox, I doubt you will see it untill they come out with the xbox 3. I don't think it'll sell as well though, MGS2 was a HUGE HUGE!! flop on the xbox.

That's because the PS2 was still the daddy last gen, things are different this time. However many copies MGS4 sells on PS3, it would be pretty much guaranteed to sell more on the 360 due to the increased install base.

Whilst you’re right there are little things like that. Hardly the massive parts of the game that would need changing that some reviewers claimed.

If you're a mgs fan, you'll have already bought a ps3 and the game. I just don't see it selling on the 360.

of course it would sell. the majority of people arent going to buy a ps3 just to play mgs4. how can you say it wouldnt sell if it was also on a console with a far bigger user base?

You can't just ignore the 360 owners by saying if they wanted it they would have already bought it. There's plenty that would buy it if it was on 360, but wouldn't go as far as buying a console just to play it.

You're right to a degree, fans are going to buy the system the game is on, however Metal Gear does not have the Fan Base that other games have, it's clearly not going to shift units to the levels of GTA 4 on just one of the systems never mind the two together, moving it over to other systems would increase the sales of the game and from my play through of the game it would not take much to make that cross over. Not everyone has the levels of income to purchase all systems more to the fact a system thats £300 for one game, if they already have a 360 it makes that purchase harder.

They would need to remove the sixaxis that Snake uses to control Mk II and replace it with the 360 pad, and no doubt remove all of the Apple products you see scattered through the game as I doubt MS would be too happy about that. Plus the Codec speak with Otacon about the PS3 and Blu-Ray.

I'm quite a bit MGS fan and I havnt bought a ps3?? nothing about the ps3 interests me really bar MGS and I'm not buying it just for that

if it was on the 360 it would sell loads and everyone here knows it would. as has been said the 360 has a far larger user base currently and I bet quite a few of them are in the same position as me

Think you have missed the last few posts as we have covered the points you raise, also MS would not be owner of the game so apple stuff would stay, please see the bottom of my first post about the codec as it could be changed to at least you did not have to wait 6 - 15 mintues to install each act, it works both ways.
