Metal Gear Solid 4 Review Database

Yeah I'm just being silly, but seems to me that the reviewers possibly don't understand the world of MGS (plot, characters etc.) and have marked it down because they don't know wtf is going on maybe?

Either way its showing to be a great great game :)

Have to agree, all the 10/10 scores seem to be from people well versed in the MGS story and review it as they see it. Some reviews like the Eurogamer one is from people who dont like it that much, or from people who worry people who have not played any MGS games before not knowing whats going on. 1up for example wont let there biggest MGS fan, mangod himself do the review for the main article as he is such a fan, but they let the biggest halo fan boy review halo 3? Seem strange to me.

No, because Boom Blox isn't plot-centric, and something like MGS4 is. If a focal point of a game is the plot and it underdelivers, expect it to be marked down. Just as you would expect a racing game to be marked down if its cars handled like trolleys.

Grid? :D

Metacritic tbh, still after playing MGS4 for a few hours yesterday i can see why everyone is so excited, it really is very good.

Metacritic.com makes this thread pretty pointless

Was going to post this :)

To have all this hype about being the best game ever and saving the PS3, then having 90% of the reviewers I trust give it 8/10 doesn't fill me with confidence. The games they give 10/10 weren't that great, 8/10 must be poor by their standards. Stuck it at the back of the rental list to decide for myself anyway.

Why do you trust review sites that you have admitted gave 10/10 to games that were not that great? Sounds like the problem is in your choice of trusted reviewers to be honest.
I think we had 2 or 3 Heavenly Sword, Uncharted and even Lair threads, when FFXIII is released I'd even expect calls for a new sub-forum.

Every time a PS3 exclusive is released it's treated like the 2nd coming of the messiah.
Do a search for ninja Gaiden 2 and realise how wrong your statement is. A lot of threads, 360 exclusive..... hmmm. It does not surprise me that people without the console a game is released on would complain about threads for that game/console.

Gametrailers.com and Gamespot.com's video reviews are up.

The MGS4 threads will die down in a few months, and you can go back to reading threads about how someones xbox 360 has the RROD for the 56th time.

What puzzles me is why these people don't just ignore the threads about the game they can't have, instead of getting involved in them and moaning about how many threads there are.
Life's too short.

thats nonsense. They wouldn't let shane review the game because he was part of the press preview at konami offices. its a known 1up/egm policy, if you are the lead previewer on a game and have met/visited the developer during development you will not review the game.

they spoke about it on egmlive and 1up yours a while back

That's a freakin lot of perfect/near perfect scores

I do agree that this thread is a little odd though... I mean I've never seen any threads solely about reviews on one game before.

I have a PS3, probably have the game sat at home by now and I still think it's a strange thread to create.

Some people do seem a little too into MGS :p

Lol just read the IGN US review...it got another 10 (thats 2 in 2 months IGN what are you doing?)

Closing Comments
Is it possible to give a game an 11? If so, this would be the game that would merit that score. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a title that exceeds all of the hype that was attached to the title. Regardless of whether you've seen every trailer and screenshot, read every preview and heard every interview, you won't get a full sense of how phenomenal this title is unless you sit down and experience it for yourself.

Legends die hard and deserve a heroic story that lives on when they are gone. Metal Gear Solid 4 is such an ending for the legendary warrior Solid Snake. Not only does it sum up the full franchise of Metal Gear, its depth and its complexity, coupled with its technical prowess, make it one of the best games of the year and, indeed, one of the best games ever made. Get some well earned rest, Snake. You've earned it. We salute you.

10 Presentation
A story worthy of a feature length film, with action that keeps you engaged from the second you hit the start button 'til the final credits roll.
10 Graphics
Incredibly detailed and visually breathtaking, with amazing camera angles, MGS4 is one of the most beautiful titles ever made.
10 Sound
Haunting melodies, the re-introduction of classic themes via iPod, and perfect line delivery by actors -- this is an aural delight from start to finish.
10 Gameplay
Not only does MGS4 include new gameplay mechanics, it shatters the mold of what's expected from the series. Stealth, action, or balanced play: the choice is yours in how you explore this MGS world.
10 Lasting Appeal
There are dozens of secrets and Easter Eggs, along with tons of ways to approach any combat situation. Plus, when you're done with the single player, MGO will keep you engaged for weeks on end.

Masterful OVERALL

Had a laugh at the 11 out of 10 bit, it was very spinal tap.
