Metal Gear Solid. The Phantom pain.

Definitely play GZ as it is a prologue to this. If you play it on the same platform you can import tour save file too, so you get a few extras.

So can you not transfer PS4 > PC? I haven't played GZ but I own it on the PS4, then bought V for the PC. Guessing I'm out of luck then?

People who say that tend to only try using it for 20 minutes before giving up.

I'd be rubbish with keyboard and mouse now, even though I grew up playing games using it - Quake (1-3), Counter Strike etc

If I stuck with it, over the course of a few hours/days I'd soon get better though.

Lol, i have tried, honest. I used to play against my lad on xbox on all sorts of games. I just couldn't get used to it. FPS games were the worst and they are my fave genre.

Check the MGSV PC reddit, there's a guide on there showing folks how to get the GZ bonuses on PC, without owning that game on Steam.

I'm 40 odd hours in and I still have no idea what constitutes a 'checkpoint' in this game. I see the save icon appear frequently, but if I go to the last checkpoint it is often way before that.

i thinkthey draw line around objetives a set diatance away once you cros them anywehre thats the check point

You can sort of force checkpoints by picking a plant and waiting until it arrives at Motherbase. You should see an orange circle in the top right to indicate it is saving at that point.

However, this only seems to work outside of the designated mission boundary that Tefal is talking about as extractions never seem to arrive at MB when inside this area.

is it just me or the whole thing about becoming "demon" pretty stupid? It's pretty annoying that it's a permanent effect being covered by blood and the massive horn even with high heroism just for killing people.

I'm only half way through and I'm doing all side missions and it's kinda ruining the experience imo

Okay, more thoughts on the game.

Fro the people who hark on about how this isn't the MGS experience, I think partly what has happened here is the MGSV is supposed to be a clear departure from the traditional MGS for a number of reasons.

If you think back to the Solid Snake (/Raiden) trilogy, when you look at it Snake didn't really have much of a say in what was happening. He had to infiltrate Shadow Moses, that set off the chain of events that lead to the boarding of the tanker, which lead to the Big Shell incident. Once he was old, his final mission again was very much clearly defined once he hit the ground. He just had to keep going as instructed, and was pretty much a pawn in a much grander scheme (and of course this describes Raiden as well). For the same reason, MGS3 was like this, Naked Snake was thrust into a situation that simply had to be resolved and he merely a player in a bigger plot.

This is why the previous games were cinematic and linear. You still had a pretty fun gameplay sandbox of course, but you just kept going forward.

However, after this, Big Boss now wanted out. He was tired of taking orders and wanted to be in charge of himself. As much as there is an overall objective, now you choose the missions, you decide how to approach them.

This is why PW and TPP make so much sense in the way that they are designed. Having such an open world makes me feel so much more like Big Boss than having things designed in the old school style way. I am a lone operator operating invisibly amongst dozens of enemy combatants, using a huge variety of skills to give me the advantage. Soldiers talk of me with a mixture of fear and admiration. I AM Big Boss because I decide what is going to happen and when.

Anyone done mission 28-29?...Probably one of the best missions, however

It just goes to show how the whole structure of the game doesn't work. Mission 28 ends on a cliffhanger, with the helicopter you are on about to crash... Then a message pops up saying 'to be continued', and you are back in the base chopper able to choose side ops:confused: 28 and 29 should clearly have been one mission! I went to Afghanistan an back somehow then chose the next mission and I was able to even choose the time of day the mission was set in ffs. 29 picks up the very second 28 ends.

What a mess.

Fulton'd/ed a Mule/Ass/Donkey (whatever you may refer to them as) and noticed that on being yanked into the sky, they make the exact same noise as the zombies from Oblivion! I never knew Bethesda used generic donkey noises for their undead, but hey you learn something new every day.

That's not Hal, it's Huey - his father.

Well now I feel stupid. :D

I think I took her out as a buddy around mission 12/13 if I recall correctly. Definately after 10 and before 15 :D

Cheers! :D

Tbh, I'll probably just kill her if I play through again. She is practically useless for a large part of the game, until you can unlock a silencer for her, and it isn't like you'll be missing out on a great character!

 I think she is slightly overpowered, though tbh I fully levelled her up unintentionally by mission 14 running around on side missions. She is brutal with the silenced weapons, amount of times I run through outposts without taking anyone out myself is crazy.

I AM Big Boss and I decide to do repetitive, grind-fest missions clearing out the same outposts over and over.:D:p

^^^

Discovered earlier today by Konami, a game-breaking bug in missions 29 and 42 of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain may end up corrupting your save file.

Until updated; please avoid playing missions 29 & 42 while using Quiet as your buddy, as this seems tied to the cause of the issue
