Metal Melting?

How much did you spent getting all the gear and gas? I can’t see this breaking even less you have lots of scrap with a constant supply of it.

its not that bad if you know scrap yard owners..basically you buy whats called " irony alley " normally by the ton. the thing is he seems like a hobbiest. so for money its pretty much pointless unless you want to make things. putin has announced hes going to be giving the usa 2 million tons of alley soon so prices will at least adjust :D

haha its what you call it. iron / aluminum . basically things with part aluminum part steel iron. like gear boxes. i used to buy 1 ton of it then strip it . you can also just stick it in the smelter like hes on about make ingots which are a good price.

Is it really?

What Is Irony Aluminium?

This grade of scrap aluminium is regularly used for vehicle parts including gearboxes and engines.

In general, reputable scrap yards will categorise your waste as irony aluminium if 70% of its weight consists of aluminium metal. The remaining 30% is typically steel.

You can make a surprising amount from irony aluminium in the UK!

Submit an enquiry to Scrap Local to see how much you could be offered to scrap your aluminium waste.

I have a garden full of copper and aluminium.
Old heating boiler.. copper pipes.. electric 3 phase motors.. etc etc

Copper pipes of 15mm, 22mm and 28mm can still be useful for plumbing repairs. If they are in good condition you could sell them to someone who could use them. You'll get more than the scrap price for them.

You could disassemble the electric motors, remove the copper wiring and then sell it and the steel/aluminium motor bodies separately to a scrapyard. Not sure if it's economically worth doing it though.

So bought a metal melting furnace to melt it all down and mold in ingots..
Easier to weight up and sell too..

Unless you're going to make things out of the copper, aluminium or steel then I don't see any point doing this. Is this a cover story for your sideline melting down stolen gold bullion? They say you should throw in a few 1p and 5p pieces to change the new gold bar's trace metals profile. ;-)

The cost of the propane and the apparatus needed to melt and cast base metals will be more than the money you will get from selling them. If you just want to collect old discarded metal and get paid for it then take it to the most generous local scrapyard and do the minimum to it (for example, don't waste electricity cutting it up with an angle grinder if you can avoid it).

Also, if you're going to melt metal in your back garden get a fire extinguisher, wear a respirator and check the local clean air rules. You don't want to get a large fine after one of your neighbours reports you for producing toxic smoke.

as said the general rule on motors is you get a third of the total weight of the motor in copper. oldskool way would be break em open whichever way you do it upto you. then they would burn them on a fire.this makes the copper literally fall out or easy to pull out. do that now same as burning copper cable. you can get 9 months in prison. :p
