Metal shower baskets that don't rust?

Ok, having nearly completed my complete bathroom refit (hoping to put up pictures in the near future!), I'm on to the last few finishing touches. I'd like to put a corner basket in the shower for soap and shampoo, mounted to the wall.

Most of the metal baskets seem to be mild steel with a chrome coating, which my experience associates with looking good for a few months, and then looking terrible as the coating wears, and rust streaks appear.

The alternatives seem to be either pure stainless steel ones, or chrome coating over a brass core. Both of these are really expensive (£40) for just a wire basket! - anyone have any tips on cheap sources or alternative products?

Cheers!

or modify one of their stainless kitchen shelves

Personally I hate them and would have built something like this:

I got one of them ones which are on a spring-loaded pole that fit in-between the floor and ceiling. It was fine for 3 months then one day, with my back turned to it in the shower, I heard a loud crash, followed by a bang and finally the wallop.

Before when all was fine and dandy:

Afterwards when some of the pole shot through the ceiling into the loft space:

On the plus side though - it didn't rust

I had one of those that felt like it was going to go through the ceiling though never quite did. It did however rust eventually!!

Might be better looking in kitchenware rather than bathroom and finding something there that is actually stainless rather than chrome?

Really like the look of that Grundtal stainless steel unit, and the price is fantastic! Might be on to a winner there, thanks!

Try some stainless steel screws or you'll get rust dribbles down the wall
(small quantities can be found on eBay)

Btw, stainless steel isn't rust proof, some just corrode less than others.

Agreed, I'm going to ask around a few of my engineering contacts for any 316L offcuts they might have!

Good shout on the screws, I already use brass screws in other areas so I'll be using those anyways.

Wouldnt some WD40 on the screws help?

Either that or just keep replacing. I currently have this issue but ive got to re-do the whole bathroom anyway so I havn't touched it as of yet!

I doubt it , just pay a bit extra for stainless and forget about it.

I'm looking for a solution and just wanted to add that the stick-on (suction) wire shelves you get from B&Q and the likes are rubbish. They aren't fit for purpose. Do not try them, even if they're on 3-for-2. I returned mine and the girl at the returns desk wasn't at all surprised and implied they get loads back.

I like the look of the Ikea one, but want something with a lip to stop little hands from pulling bottles of the shelves. My search continues...

Samuel Heath bathroom items do not rust. We have two of their wire baskets and have had for approximately 7 years and they look as good as the day they were bought.

We had this problem with every basket we purchased to the point where they were almost consumable. In the end we replaced them with three plastic baskets that use suction cups to hold them to the tiles. They were a quid each, don't look as tacky as I thought they might, and despite being loaded with all manner of girlie guff, haven't fallen off once.

Have never found one that doesn't rust. A few years back I bought some large pump action bottles from muji and decant shampoo into them and use soap on a soap dish on the riser bar.
