Well I have still not heard from Steam my god that company is a joke!!!!! Getting seriously %$£" with them
 
What driver are you using?

You could try using a very old driver (like a year old).

Have you thought about contacting 4A games and showing them this thread? Worth a shot as you've tried everything else. I had a friend once that got a patch of some kind from the dev / publisher that enabled him to run F.E.A.R.

Ok ta m8 emailed 4A just hope their support is better than steams lol I don't think it could be worse hehe.

May I ask what system and what settings your playing on?
 
I had this problem ages ago and I set steam to offline mode and pulled my ethernet cable,wiped the physx drivers from the steam folder,re booted,installed physx drivers,re-booted and it worked. What I will say is if you are using Nvidia card/s very high settings have a bug that muddies all the textures to hell so high settings makes it look better. I first played it on sli 580's and had that problem
 
thanks for trying guys appreciate it neighbour has tried as well and his is fine but still says I have a file missing on verify files but doesn't say what file and doesn't install it. Really getting fed up now with this dam game never known anything like this.
 
just noticed when it comes to install the game is says 4795mb needed to install game surly that's wrong it should be a lot larger shouldn't it??
 
nope nothing nadda nothing from steam for 10days either when they do reply its check the community site im like duhhhh never though of that lol

The missing file isn't anything to worry about, it will be the local config file. A little extreme but have you tried deleting the local content for Metro 2033 and letting it re-download?

Any chance of a screenshot of the actual error you are getting?
 
ive posted the error already im getting at post 7 as for PhysX its set to gpu.

Ive reinstalled the game so many times and its the same everytime.
