Positives.
The game is brilliant, very atmospheric and unlike 2033 it actually has a real story. The story itself is unlikely to win awards but it's intriguing, has some mystery and a few twists, over all pretty good.
I love the weapon customization, very nice addition. The weapons variety was also pretty good, I favoured an Silenced AK and Shotgun for most of the game, the big Rifle is nice but opportunities to use it are slim and on Ranger Hardcore the ammo is far too precious to waste. I found it to be a plot weapon, use it when one if given to you.
Combat is solid, stealth is rewarding (if a little easy, see below) and when **** hits the fan the weapons have enough of a satisfying kick to them to make things fun.
The world design is beautiful and pretty diverse for a post apocalyptic shooter, lots of great visuals especially if you take the time to look around.
The final few chapters after rescuing the child Dark One are incredible, story, visuals, atmosphere, it really is the high point for me.
Now on to some negatives.
BOSS BATTLES.
There are actually boss battles, in arenas, one of them involves a burly monster to charges at you at which point you move and it hits a well, stunning itself. I **** you not. Another involves shooting a GLOWING WEAK SPOT on a giant mutant bear. WHAT THE ACTUAL **** 4A!? This is horrible and has no place in the game.
Stealth is far too easy with the auto-kill moves, also silenced weapons are too good now helmets don't seem to do anything it your target isn't in combat. I ghosted 99% of the game with complete ease.
There are a few too many "Hold out till X happens" moments but that might just be me.
One part with Artyom and Anna which I thought was actually a dream sequence turned out to be real, not a negative as such but kinda made me feel dumb.
The brothel in Venice is so ****ing creepy there are no adequate words to describe it.
The ending is a bit lame.
The fixed FoV is annoying but not a deal breaker, at least it wasn't for me.
Over all, at least 9/10 for me,
