So slow, was Hamilton going ultra slow because he knows Rosberg struggles here with colder tires? Or just genuinely looking for a gap, couldn't tell who was ahead of him.

Rosberg still 6/10ths down and 4th. If Ricciardo matches Verstappen I don't think Rosberg will get higher than 4th. Need the Ferrari's to have better laps though.

That 55C track temp (!!!) killed those second Q3 runs for all but Nicola.

Hulk ahead of both Ferraris, disappointing by the horses after what they've done here the rest of the meet so far. And apparently Kimi reported engine trouble just before he pulled off track to let Nicola by in S3.

It didn't, that was just Crofty being a complete douche. It was a full 1C hotter than the first runs.

A hint is, if the tires are overheating the tires lose performance the hotter they get. The tires were gaining performance over the lap, not losing it. The tires were too cold and were only getting the right temp towards S3.

Track temp alone means very little in reality, the tire temp matters and the various tires work well at different temps between 100-140C or so. It's the combination of track temps, track abrasiveness and corner types. Here you've got a very flat track, pretty tame corners, a fairly short track(tires will heat up more over a 1:50 lap than a 1:19 lap), all of which adds up to not really bringing tire temp up.

It's why they were trying to do two laps and often at times finding the 2nd or 3rd run in free practice being faster than the first run.

I'm somewhat surprised no one went out earlier and did outlap plus two warm up laps before going flat out, would probably have found a few tenths doing that.

I'm not overly bothered about which Mercedes driver wins the WDC so I'd rather see a decent race than see a race that prolongs or makes the WDC more interesting. Really hoping that the Red Bulls get a jump on both Mercs at the start and are able to pull out enough of a gap to make a race of it later on with some different strategy.
