Is there anything that stands out to you about this? All I can think of is making sure that it has a service history, a friend has mentioned the head gaskets too.

MG ZR 1.4 105? :p

Iirc then your mate is correct about the headgasket part, so make sure with that mileage that it has either being already sorted or isn't about to fail, as it is a fairly expensive thing to repair. And make sure you check the usual things when going to view like service history, hpi check and a good check over all the car for any accident damage as it dosent always show up on the hpi register.Take someone along with you also who knows a little about cars as they can give you their impartial opinion - as the excitement of getting your first motor can make you overlook things you wouldnt overlook normally.Dosent seem a too bd choice for your first car, however Rovers are not famed for their reliability and im a firm beleiver of Japanese engineering :D so anything Jap like Honda,Toyota etc will probably give you less grief :D

The only thing that would concern me is that it has done less than 12000 a year, which more than likely means lots of short journeys. Coupled with the fact that it's a bit of a boy racers car, it's quite likely to have been thrashed regularly from cold which, especially with these engines, is not good for the HG.

:D

They're not bad, but not great cars, Headgasket has a BIG tendancy to go on the K-series engine, I test drove my gf's dad's 105 a few times when I was thinking about getting one, but never got it in the end, and he chopped his in for a 1992 MX5 :D if you want fun, cheap and hatchback without being too big, take a look at late 90's Civics, or the OcUK favourite, Fiesta 1.25 Zetec, get a nice one for about half the asking price on the ZR.

The mileage is not low enough for concern. It's a small hatchback, it's unlikely to have ever been a motorway cruiser anyway.

Not normally, but for a car that's likely to have been abused and already has a penchant for chewing HGs, I would be put off. More fool me I guess :).

It's a 6 year old 1.4 litre car with 70k on the clock just how many miles do you want it to have

I dunno, but I don't care because I wouldn't consider buying one. The OP asked for opinions, I gave mine. I'm not saying it's gonna blow up as soon as he drives off in it, merely that I would be concerned about the issue of HF failure, which is likely to have been exacerbated if the car has been ragged by a boy racer.

I've sent the guy who posted the add a text message asking about the service history, i'll try find out if the HG has been replaced yet.

If it hasn't and it does go, what sort of money are we talking? £500?

I bought a Focus 2002 (51) with 40k on the clock. Have had said car nearly one and half year. Have I had any issues? because of lower than average miles it came with ?

Have I balls.

That said my car is in a different league regarding reliability so my comment is entirely useless in this instance :D
