MGS5 having only played MGS1?

The MGS HD collection on PS3 only contains MGS2, MGS3 and Peacewalker - you still have to buy MGS1 from the store which is the original PS1 title and not a HD remake (one day Kojima!). MGS3 does contain MG1 and MG2 though...

I played MGS1 on the PS many moons ago. Not played any others, and now have a PS4 (no other console).

I want to get MGS5 when its out. But no way to play the other games :(.

If playing today I would honestly pick up a GameCube/Wii and Twin Snakes, or google around to find ways of doing similar on PC. Getting a GC + Twin Snakes may cost you £50 but you'll get it back when you sell it and it'll mean you don't have to have your eyes smashed in by what are now really, very, very dated PS1 graphics in MGS1.

The problem is that Twin Snakes isn't MGS, it's kind of a 'remix' which often comes across as far too OTT. The dialogue has terrible pacing compared to the original and the music and cutscenes are all quite different too. It doesn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the MGS games very well.

Ah.. Well I do recommend it having never played it - so I'll take your word for it! I bought the HD pack recently on PSN and this has reminded me to go back to the very beginning and play MGS1 properly.

Anytime I want to play MGS now I play Twin Snakes on my Gamecube. Only way I'd play PS1 version of MGS now is on my Vita. Those graphics on my TV would make my eyes bleed regardless of how much I enjoy MGS.

I dont see the issue with the graphics of MGS1, right now that game is stopping me playing TLoU:R (Id happily prove it too :p) - generally its controls that really age a game and MGS is surprisingly ok - only little issue is remembering the Japanese layout for ok/cancel and having to keep adding analogue support every time you boot up the game...

£17 from Asda.

How is PSN the cheapest for this? PSN is never the cheapest? There must be some hole in the space time continuum or something? CEX selling it second hand for more than you can buy it new also seems uber odd? Is there multiple versions floating about? Or are most places selling it priced as a full game, whereas PSN is pricing it as a prequel? Or is the PSN version not what I think it is?

I've played 1, 2, 3, most of 4 and GZ and I still didn't get what was going on.

I read bits and pieces of the Wiki and that really helped understand more of the story and finer details. Perhaps that would be better for you to do?

Or... just play it? Work on the rest when you're ready and can be bothered.

I might have to buy GZ on PS+ then, was just thinking of renting it nearer PPs release or hoping there would be a bundle with both of them together. As I said Im too busy to need to play GZ now...
