MGS5 having only played MGS1?

Ground Zeros is only 10 quid on the Playstation store, hence this thread.

The HD collection is still quite expensive.

I'd still have to buy the PS3 versions.

It doesn't sound like there is anything in the other games that's a necessity for MGS5, so I think I will grab Ground Zeros and give it a go. If I enjoy it I will go back and get the HD Collection.

I loved MGS1, didnt play 2 or 3, hated 4, it just seemed very dated, and the storyline was a bit...to out there for me. Only played it for about 1 hour before getting totally bored.

I'm hoping I can get back into the series with MGS5

They aren't exactly expensive.

MGS1 - £7.99
MGS HD Collection(Which includes 2, 3 and Peacewalker) - £12
MGS 4 - £10

Bargain for one of the best series ever and I only started going through them this year. Finished 1, 2 and 3 so far and just starting 4.

I tried playing one the later versions first since I didn't want to play with such dated graphics but I gave up and eventually went through them in order and they were way more enjoyable.

Meh, wouldn't bother..

I played MGS on the PS1, one of my favourite games of all time. Played the remake on the GameCube which was equally as good but a bit OTT with the cut scenes.

Played MGS 2 on Xbox and thought it was terrible.. Haven't touched the series since but quite enjoyed the Ground Zeroes 'demo' and can't wait for MGS5. Not that interested in what I've missed, storywise, I'll just take the next game on it's own merits.

I'm after if there are any story lines I need to know before playing 5 (like people who watched the Matrix 2 without watching the original and therefore spending the whole film confused to hell), and it doesn't sound like there are.

The problem is we dont know whats gonna happen in MGS5 but knowing Kojima and how he tell his stories its gonna be convoluted and spanning multiple previous games - thats what he does.

Thats why there are plenty of people that keep replaying the games because of how he presents the story, the bonus is they are each incredible games anyway.

A few of us have told you that, it just sounds like you want whatever answer you want to hear - just google and youll get the same kind of responses. For the fact that MGS5:GZ follows from Peacewalker which was a PSP title just shows how much Kojima likes to interweave his story...

Im going through them myself mainly for that reason as I know MGS5 is gonna be ten times better having the whole backstory experienced...

ps3ud0

The whole series is one story. So you miss everything else involved in the world and a story that has a huge amount of content.

Story is a convoluted mess don't worry. There was a series on youtube which explains it over a few videos if you really want to know.

Some people in here do seem to make it sound like it's pointless playing 5 unless you have played all the others. That would make 5 totally alien to new players, or anyone under 25 years old.

It certainly sounds like the back catalog is worth playing, but not that I will be totally baffled and lost if I play 5 on its own.

Now... to get over my hatred of paid demos and betas, and stump up the tenner for GZ.

It's a great channel in general if you wish to catch up on stories but don't have time or inclination to play the older games.

Example below

That should help clear up the plots if you didn't have time to play them all

23.5 Hours...lol

I'm not sure 24 hours of cut scenes is a good reflection of good game design :p.

Didn't one of the MGS games get ridiculed for having a 30 minute cut scene or something?

Yup MGS4 had nearly 9.5 Hours worth of them.

I love a good narrative but that's way OTT for me. Probably the main reason I disliked that game. Breaks up the gameplay so much that it becomes preferable to simply watch the cut-scenes on YT.

I didn't mind 5 hours worth like in MGS3 - which was my fave.

I'm not a massive fan of the franchise though - just quite enjoy 3 of the games in it so far. I think I'll like MGS5, but we'll see. Will deff give it a shot though.
