I think there will be several people worried about their jobs at this moment.
Really, And there was I under the impression that the usual procedure in the event of public sector screw ups like this was to wheel out a "Spokesperson" who nobody has ever heard of before to apologise on behalf of his department but nevertheless insisting that all established procedures had been followed (IE Nobody is responsible) before going on to say that "Lessons will be Learned"!
