I have never ever been to a tyre shop that could get me an out of stock tyre same day. It's always at least overnight.
Me neither, hence my question. Is there a gap in the market for a tyre shop to have a good selection of premium tyres in stock for the more demanding or discerning driver?
 
This seems to be quite a British thing too, in parts of Europe you come across even absolute bangers fitted with 4 decent tyres.

not a tyre snob but had goodyears they were very good, had michis again very good, now on contis and they are a harder compound and lasting and gripping very well in all weathers.

I have...we have a good local fitter to me who can get same day tyres, but you do pay a bit of a premium vs. next day because the guys who stock things and can deliver same day...charge more for the service. Go figure! :)

I doubt it. As per your points earlier in the thread most people don't care. There won't be enough of a population around a particular area to make it worthwhile. Aside from punctures/damage, why would you need a tyre the same day anyway? Why not just use a remote fitter who can get stock with a day or so?
 
If you go to a dealer which sells performance cars they will probably have good tyres in, but they will likely cost more (but not always).

It's cheaper to just go on Blackcircles etc and order them. Regular fitters are only going to store what sells quickly as tyres can't be stored forever.

Another thing is performance tyres aren't as generic and customers are much more picky. They want certain brands and models. Some will work great on one type of car but not on others.

You have to consider the nature of the person who wants high performance, premium tyres - how many of them, barring unrepairable puncture scenarios, are needing tyres replaced at such short notice that they can't wait a day?

I'd wager the number is virtually nil, and even if not nil, certainly dwarfed by the number of people who only want cheap tyres and the likelihood they'll find themselves needing tyres at short notice because they never check them.

Nope, not as far as I know.

The regulations in the UK centre around tread depth and tyre type being used on the same axle only and them not being cut etc. It doesn't have to meet any minimum standards on performance or quality.

The EU regulations focus on what must be displayed on the tyre wall (make and model of tyre, size of tyre in correct format and written in English). In 2012 they introduced a tyre labelling system in which the fuel economy, noise and wet weather performance had to be displayed on the tyre. AFAIK, this is not something that is independently tested - the manufacturers themselves get to evaluate their own tyres and choose what they write on the tyre label. Surprisingly, most manufacturers are quite complementary about their own products!
 
Yep, all bureaucratic crap which isn't useful as usual. Probably written by someone who has no idea about the subject.

They focus so much on economy nonsense but don't take in to account that it's making tyres worse and less grippy.
