Micro transactions in full priced games

You know the horrible thing?

What Microtransactions get people today... cheats got me when I was younger, and they were free. :(

it all seems to be money orientated now, as soon as one company implements something, then they all slowly end up doing it.

paid for DLC, paid for extras, paid for special weapons or vehicles, etc.

the amount of money people are spending on fifa is mental, people used to complain about having to spend £40 every year on the same game rehashed, now a lot are willing to spend £1000's on it every year for ultimate team packs.

the whole industry is going that way it looks like, even GTA 5 with every update has made it harder and harder to make money, and the big cars, tanks and fighter jets costs millions. they want people to buy in game cash with real cash.

i think that from now on it's better to wait and pick up games 3 months after release for cheaper, see if it's any good and sell it on for no loss or keep it and with the money saved buy some upgrades.

Any game that has microtransactions has obviously been configured to make them entincing, normally Im strong enough to withstand it (FIFA Ultimate Team is a great example) but its got to the point where it just seems better to just avoid them in case developers actually think this is what gamers want...

ps3ud0

i don't think developers think we actually want them, they are just milking their loyal fans for all they are worth.

if you were to speak to gamers 10 years ago and tell them that people would be spending several hundreds of pounds every couple of months to play fifa they would have thought you were mental, but it is the case now.

people try and justify such spending as well with things like, oh i don't drink or smoke so i spend the money i would on them on packs.

well i don't inject heroin or smoke crack, does that mean i should go to the casino every night and throw £100 away playing some roulette?

if you were truly happy to spend the cash on packs you wouldn't even need to think that you need to justify it. there was even a guy saying he was putting them down as a business expense and essentially they were free packs so he didn't care, once his account got hacked he quickly changed his story and said he would no longer be purchasing "free packs", he obviously realised he was throwing money away which could be better spent elsewhere.

i don't mind paying good money for games, it's just that with a lot of them being focused on milking more and more out of you, it doesn't make playing as good an experience as it used to be.

the worse thing is are those youtubers, they make millions from subscribers, views and sponsors, they then spend them on games, viewers see them and their amazing stuff and follow suit, but they don't realise that those youtubers are spending little to generate a high income through the success of their channels, but you are just spending money on virtual items.

i mean if aliens were analysing you, they would think you were mad to be spending £1000 every year on virtual items which after 1 year become worthless and you then need to buy the new versions. it's amazing how many willingly do it as well.

in my opinion most of those people are throwing money away.

you can easily grind in that game, i have managed to accumulate 300K+ and i don't play it all day long like some do. i've probably played about 150 games.

to build a decent team is easy with 100K also in that game if you don't go for the best of the best.

i think spending £10-£20 when the game first launches to get you going would be more than enough for most people if they were sensible.

i haven't spent a penny on packs yet i have 100K in the bank and 2 really good teams with guys like Etoo, Balotelli, Di Natale, De Rossi, Jovetic, Cech, Lloris, etc.

I do have 2 accounts though which I login to everyday when the free gifts are available on the web app, i think i've made at least 50K that way alone.

Its not about that, its the thrill of the pack opening. You don't do that grinding.

Why do they become worthless? Do the games suddenly stop working?

how big a thrill do you get from opening virtual packs which cost a lot of money in a game where they become worthless within 12 months?

personally i would rather spend the money on a holiday, but each to their own.

Get a reasonable thrill - its not like its affecting any other part of my life though, I can still afford packs AND a holiday each year. :p

well then the new fifa comes out and everyone moves onto that and you have to start from scratch again.

sure if it was a game which lasted say 5 years you could call it worthwhile, but fifa has a maximum shelf life of 12 months before its superseded and everyone moves on.

i do realise you don't need to buy the new fifa and keep the older version but if all your mates have bought the new version you cannot play with them, against them or do pro clubs, etc.

if they allowed you to transfer players from one fifa to the next that would be brilliant, obviously though they don't to milk consumers more.

i'm sure a lot of people can, i just see it as a waste with the game having such a short lifespan and you can easily grind out a decent enough team to keep things somewhat fair compared to pack buyers. i'd rather spend the £300 elsewhere, a holiday was just one example. sure if your absolutely loaded and £300 means nothing to you then it wouldn't seem like a great deal of money being spent on virtual items.

i get a huge thrill beating teams worth 10 times what mine are that's where the fun is for me, winning.

I can understand that, if money was an issue i wouldn't be spending that on packs, fortunately its not, even though i still feel its a bit of a rip off but I enjoy the thrill of getting a big name player in a pack opening binge, it tingles the part of my brain that I used to enjoy getting football stickers as a kid.

I guess you would be happy about buying the air we breathe, if companies found a way to charge us for that
