Microsoft acquire Activision

MS isn't spending this cash for short term return and my hunch is all these titles will go exclusive at some point. So what if they lose money on the next few CoDs? Their plan is to offer a service that's so good no gamer can turn it down and, rightly or wrongly, they are on the right track. I have barely turned my PS5 on since launch. Infact my experience of using the PS5 is turning it on and having to update each time as it gets used so little. My Series X gets played most days and that's all down to Gamepass. And Gamepass hasn't even started to stretch it's legs yet.

For what it's worth I don't like that things are heading this way. I find myself buying 3rd party stuff on the PS5 just to give it some air time. On the other hand, i'll be playing co-op games with my mates all weekend, just like most weekends, and that's all down to Gamepass. I need to finish Halo too, start ME Remastered and give Hitman 3 a go. Death's Door is also fantastic btw - I bought that at launch and it was my fave game of 2021. Now all of these are free on Gamepass.

Which is so bad for everything, they want to be the Netflix of games i get it. Japanese companies need to grow a set of balls and grow through cheap debt like the American companies do (Microsoft aside but they have a virtual monopoly=free money) but they are soo anti that.

Game Pass makes it very hard to justify purchasing any games. There is just a constant stream of top quality games, at around 4 a month on average that I want to play.

And as you say it's transformative if you're not a social recluse as all your friends will have the same coop or PvP games, without needing to convince people to buy games or have the whole group upset if a game you convinced everyone to buy turns out to be a stinker.

You should call Microsoft immediately and let them know as they are clearly too dumb to realize this, they are even buying studios and committing to future games being exclusive to their services en masse! They’re missing out on all those Sony, Nintendo, and Linux sales!

Or maybe Microsoft know that services and getting people committed to monthly income trumps the occasional game purchase.
What next? Ditch xbox games on Windows pc too?

THere is more money to be got from games and its mini transactions. not consoles or control pads.

COD warzone 2 for example . imagine making 2 billion from xbox only players? whjat abotu an extra 1-2 billion from Playstation players?

That is where the money is at, not in just one platform.

Look at pubg on mobile. Its on both android and apple and they have made the most money in 2021.

Console exclusives are stupid and MS and Sony realized this from 2 generations ago.

Sony are not even releasing there titles on PC now.

Sorry but exclusive is kind of a dying form. If you want to make money, you release your game in as much platforms as you possibly can with micrtransactions on it

I said games, my point was that MS are looking at the bigger picture not one game, MS are huge, they can afford not to earn a billion from CoD on another platform if it strengthens their own market position which this clearly does.

I don't know what you think they learnt 2 gens ago, the exclusives are a massive reason why PS4 was a huge success... Coupled with MS being determined to ruin all the 360 goodwill by making some of the worst decisions for a console launch ever. :D

Not sure what you mean about Sony exclusives not releasing on PC, we've seen Days Gone, Death Stranding, God of War and Horizon... Not exhaustive but likely to be more in future.

Console exclusives are becoming even more of a thing, and will continue to be so it seems, not dying out.

Looks at the Bethesda acquisition, people are not going to be playing Starfield on PS, and I think the next Elder Scrolls will be the same.

I own all the consoles so I can go wherever to play, but as a consumer I'd rather everything was open to all but that's not the world we as console gamers are going to be living in, at least for the rest of this gen.

That moment is already here as you can play XCloud through Xbox One and play Forza Horizon 5 which gives you better graphic fidelity than trying to play the game from the console itself.

All you need is a browser to access it, so if they put an App into TVs and everything else like Amazon Fire or Apple TV etc. Just Log in and play.

Obviously there will be a lot of politics to navigate before that happens but that can certain happen quite soon.

Google Stadia what?

So while the dust continues to settle on this, are there any Activision/Blizzard franchises you'd like MS to revive? Seeing as we'll never get a Sleeping Dogs sequel, and GTA6 is years away, I wouldn't mind seeing the True Crime series revamped. A Singularity sequel with a decent budget behind it could be nice too.

The latency is horrible though, even on a 10Gb/10Gb connection. Network latency is a large component of input latency when streaming and there is no acceptable solution for that for any competitive, first person, or timing based game.

Judging by your post history it’s clear to see this has little impact on you but moving to streaming only is just unacceptable for a majority of gamers and it would kill entire genres of games.

I am aware of the lag but I stand by what I said. As for “majority” of gamers. I dunno how you classify gamers, whether the majority really cares about lags, since the lady playing candy crush saga is a gamer. You are probably thinking “COD has been the best selling game for a decade and input lag is important”. I’m well aware what games sold well and how important lag is. It won’t however stop this pushing ahead and it’s only an obstacle and challenge they just have to overcome.

And no, it won’t stop them making consoles. It’s just another avenue of services that they can sell.

You haven’t said anything that opposes my point of view…
