Microsoft could be looking to acquire EA or Valve

Doesn't mean much unless EA and Valve are looking to be acquired by Microsoft.

What could Gabe possibly want in return for his company. He can already make solid gold statues of himself if he wants.

And could EA live with the irony of being absorbed itself.

No way Valve will sell out to Microsoft they make way too much money, The only reason I could MS wanting Valve is to shut down Steam and make all PC games through their store and good luck with that.

EA now they could sell out especially considering the year they've had, will have to see how Anthem screws the average gamer over.

Based on purely anecdotal evidence, it seems to me if MS bought EA and made FIFA exclusive to Xbox, nobody would buy PlayStation in Europe or South America. :p It seems every man and his dog who owns PS3/PS4 in those areas are playing FIFA. Or Fortnite Battle Royale. Just those two things.

I cant imagine MS having the funds to purchase Valve either.

Gabe might as well be printing money with how much that little venture generates.

No chance of getting their hands on Valve, which is a private company anyway so there isn't even a chance of a hostile takeover. Could get EA but that won't be a cheap venture.

Only reason for MS to go after Valve or EA would be to make them X-Box exclusive, or get bored of them and then shut them down a year later. Valve's a non-starter as it's private and already Gabe's own project that can do anything it wants (or not). EA is a goddamn mess, and I wouldn't be sad to see the management thrown out. However, with MS, we could easily lose all of EA's IP to Xbox only. Looking at their past, we could also see MS getting bored, decide that a big foray into games is no longer what they want, and shutting it all down just because they have the money to do it and not care. It would be ironic for MS to do to EA what EA have done to countless studios ie buy them and burn them down.

The only good that could come out of this would be:

- Half life 3
- EA torn down as their destroying the industry

Microsoft cannot afford Valve, so maybe EA

Microsoft have a lot more money than you think. From the original article published on polygon it states they have a cash reserve of 130 billion dollars which is no small amount.

Can I see them buying valve outright? nope not really but working a deal with valve is a possibility. Steam is great however as someone who couch games most of the time I would love to see improvements to the big screen experience. Being able to select my headset as default without going into windows sound settings is a start.

As for EA if they did buy them they would more than likely do what they have done with minecraft and keep a lot of the titles such as fifa multi platform and have some of EAs studios work on exclusives

God I hope they buy EA! EA have single handily ruined the gaming industry.

I wouldn't care if it meant having to buy games via windows 10 store.

I think getting EA would be great, They would not make games exclusive as they would want their investment back. I reckon Xbox would just get exclusive content and main console advertising, imagine having Xbox Game Pass include all the past/future/present EA games for £10 monthly fee. That's the hook right there, they want to be the Netflix of gaming service.

Article says Trump have given US companies a one off chance to bring back foreign cash from overseas for a lower tax charge. So I can deffo see MS spending the cash as they have the chance.

If MS bought valve they could just change the branding and they have a pre-baked system ready to go.
I would love them to buy EA and close them down, they damaged the industry and need to go.

Would love it if Microsoft bought Valve. We will actually see half life 3 and the tears will flow endlessly.

I would expect to get Half life "as a service" rather than 3.

M$ have consistently failed to realise their ideas of app stores. Steam and Apple both have made it work, and other game publishers like EA/R*/UBI have done well but not on the scale of Apple or steam. If they took over either steam or EA it would probably destroy the service as the reason M$ IMO have made it fail so many times is their pricing is always too high. EA started to understand this after a while hence the regular game giveaways and EA/Origin access subscription service (which is I hate to say good value for money).
