Microsoft could be looking to acquire EA or Valve

If MS bought valve they could just change the branding and they have a pre-baked system ready to go.
I would love them to buy EA and close them down, they damaged the industry and need to go.

Then where does all the IP go? I get it, EA is a cancer on the world, but I wouldn't want to see all those games just disappear into an endless limbo where MS own the IP but doesn't do anything with it ever again.

I agree MS are known for just dropping IP or products and not following through with things but I would hope if they did take over EA it would be the boost they need to really make a difference.

Microsoft writes off $7.6B, admits failure of Nokia acquisition

Don't forget that back in 2011, Microsoft splurged $8.5BN on buying Skype, when they already had a perfectly functional chat/videoconferencing application in Messenger/Live Messenger. The mess left over from that with Lync / Skype for Business / Skype and none of them talking to each other effectively is a legacy from that, and I can't see how they can have recouped a fraction of those billions, much less made any money by buying Skype.

The reason they bought SKYPE is MS could see it becoming the defacto standard chat/videoconferencing ahead Messenger/Live Messenger, they did it just to stifle the competition.

why would this mean half life 3

The thing from this that has potential for me is True play the recently added to the game mode.

If could allow them to implement a more effective operating system based anti cheat in more mainstream games.

VAC is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. And valve are too scared to make it more intrusive in case it offends the emos again.

i got an sms code on friday to log into microsoft word online, it was sent from the same number as a steam confirmation code i got last march

So? Probably using the same service provider.

I think some here are overstating valves value. Estimates put valves revenue at around 3.5bn in 2016, no idea on profits but its a fairly lean operation so wouldnt be surprised with healthy margins. Its likely well within microsoft's monetary power. Even ignoring their vast cash reserves theyd quite easily raise external debt for a leveraged buyout. That being said its private and gabe cant be forced to sell though everyone has a price.

Microsoft usually go after platforms i doubt they have any other interest than getting their claws into a well embedded platform like steam.

I detest cheating but there is a fine line there open to potential abuse in terms of intrusion.

I would be horrified if MS bought steam.

I know we all hate EA but I can't see an MS acquisition making things better, I barely use it though so I'm less terrified.

I choose to boycott any game exclusive to the MS store.

MS buying UBI would be good. Ubisoft have some of the best IPs going with some of the absolute most atrocious technical capability and implementation.

Not really, MS are known for buying smaller companies and re-branding their products "Microsoft something we didn't create".

Where as EA are known for buying them, ruining them, shutting down what they bought and reusing their brands later as hollowed out shells of their former popular products.

If MS bought EA we'd notice no difference to EA, when EA buy anything they utterly screw it over.
